Poll incoming

ETA: hypothetical job requires you to live in Mass.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:13:19 PM EDT
No.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:13:36 PM EDT
With housing provided....sure for a while
If I have to buy a house....fuck no
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:14:28 PM EDT
Considering how much I make today and what it would do for my family...not just yes but FUCK YES.

Spend 4 years there and then get the fuck out of dodge.

You don't have to buy a house, just work for at least a year

Fuck NO!

I refuse to support tyrannical regimes.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:17:49 PM EDT
I've considered it for way less. Until the AG's most recent re-interpretation of the AWB, Mass had many points that were better than where I live (Connecticut). In fact about 2 years ago, I was considering moving there and working in CT (I worked in a border town and was commuting half-way across the state each day. The Mass side of the line was much more affordable and for my interests was better for guns. Then, I got a new job closer to where I live.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:17:58 PM EDT
Given that you probably need 87k just to get by there....Fuck no.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:18:20 PM EDT
Where in MA?

I might consider living in NH and committing.

But it would have to be a hell of a job.

I don't I could ever move back though.

Fuck Massachusetts.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:18:26 PM EDT
Fuck yeah. Thats alot of stew
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:18:44 PM EDT
Get a MechE/PetE degree, move to Texas, get oil company job with willingness to travel, make that after a few years on the job AND keep your freedom. Or start a successful business here too.

Not to mention $175K in Texas is like $500K in a lot of the northeast as far as what your dollar will get you.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:18:47 PM EDT
You know, that's just "ok" money in some areas of US; here is Northern VA, its "ok" money.

Most people I know have to make at LEAST $225k or so to make it work here.  $175k ?  Pfft, dime a dozen here.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:19:04 PM EDT
No. I wouldn't move anywhere in the NE for that, especially MA.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:19:13 PM EDT
Im already here for a fraction of that. I hate this fucking state. At least @mach is a nice guy
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:20:00 PM EDT
Live in Vermont or New Hampshire.  Plenty of people commute to Boston from there
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:20:24 PM EDT
HB 218!  Western Mass is quite nice.

1 year...fuck yea.  That's 105-110k more than I make now...MA can't possibly tax me that much...right?
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:21:28 PM EDT
Yup.. for a few years to save up some cash then get the fuck out.

Huh?

I'm asking where is the job? How far from the VT or NH border?
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:22:29 PM EDT
I live in MA mostly and make 77k. It sucks. What town are you looking into?
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:22:51 PM EDT
I've given up my freedom for a lot less than that.  But it would depend on several factors.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:23:06 PM EDT
Depends on where you work. Many live in N.H. and commute to Boston.

I tend to agree as long as I can keep housing around $2k/month

If I could pocket $50-75k/yr, yes I'd do it.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:23:46 PM EDT
I doubt I'd do that for less than $300k....and even then it would need to be for a limited time.
$175k in Mass isn't much...unless it was enough money to maintain my primary residence and then just rent up there it isn't happening. Not giving up my guns and my rights to be around a bunch of left wing democrats.

Let's say within 30 min of Boston
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:26:02 PM EDT
Abso-F*CKING-lutely not, and I'm not just saying that. I took an 8% pay cut just to move out of NY and don't regret it for one minute... Living in a free state where I can exercise my 2nd amendment right is more important to me than $$$.

Besides, what good is more $$$$ if I can't buy an unneutered AR, SBR and/or suppressors...

Perfect

live in NH commute to Boston.

Keep any guns you want, and have the job.

No income tax in NH so you'll only be paying MA which you'd have to pay living there anyway.

No sales tax or excise tax in NH either.

Have you really not thought of this?
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:27:13 PM EDT
There are a lot of places you couldn't pay me to live along with big cities and that is one of them.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:28:17 PM EDT
I live in NJ and make $60,000/year.
Mass is a step up and almost 3x more money...  yes.

You can't live outside of the state, hypothetically, job calls for it.

I make about 1/2 what I did in New Jerzistan. I don't regret my decision at all.

The title says Mass not NH
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:29:28 PM EDT
It might actually be better than CA...
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:29:38 PM EDT
It depends.

Let me write the Terms and Conditions of the agreement, and I'd probably "move" for less than that.
I'd include terms such as housing/per diem for ~18 months after hire, reimbursement of travel expenses on the weekends before I "move", guarantee that I'd get 100% of the equity out of my house (including reimbursement of realtor's fees), paid health insurance, moving expenses, storage of household goods during the "move" period, severance agreement...
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:29:42 PM EDT
Hell no! I already make way more than that. Even if I didn't I wouldn't move to that commie shit hole.

Preban large capacity ammunition feeding devices are still legal to possess in Mass, if the possessor has an LTC.

Well what the fuck.

I don't know if I could live in Boston or the surrounding area.
Link Posted: 4/15/2017 6:31:57 PM EDT
Yes, but only for 5 years max.... But that's a HUGE income jump for me. I would live as cheap as possible up there with the intentions of paying cash for a home back home and a decent nest egg saved away.

Live in NH and commute to MA. Many of us do just that.

ETA: Make me an offer on my house which is 2 miles over the border. I know of a place that will be going on the market in a year or so that I want.

There are plenty of towns within the vicinity where an individual could live well on 175k per year. There are even some towns that are reasonable with respect to issuing LTCs without restriction [if you don't care about restrictions or applicant burdens, getting a license is doable in every town, though some do go out of their way to make things difficult].
