Hypothetical situation:
In the near future, the US elects a president and congress who enact full-fledge Communism. All wealth and property is immediately owned by the State. A large group of US citizens that are Conservatives/Tea Party/Libertarians/Arfcommers/etc. go protest in D.C.. I'm talking a million or more people. As commander and chief, the sitting president orders the military to attack the crowd. Since the vast majority of military members are good people and would support the protest, would the military do what the president asks? Or would they refuse? |

Is perdiem available and do I have a rental car? If yes, then "Grid to follow." |

Guardsmen and Reservists at home no. Other than that all bets are off. If you dont have that community connection dont make any bets on it.

Whiskey Tax rebellion
Civil War Bonus Army marchers Radiological and biological warfare testing on various subway systems without particpant knowledge you mean "again"? |

Yes, so would LEO. They need jobs, and they don't want to be put in jail or taxed for not doing it.

History has many answers to the future, so yes they would, they have done it before and will do so again.

The mil in Egypt didn't. The riot cops were having fun though.
It's hard to say what would happen here. |

Without question. If it was going to come to this for sure, wait for the crowd to dig in and return fire. And they should be watching the roof tops. The official voting booth of the time. |

I wouldn't. Unless they were shooting at me. I won't fire the first shot you can bet that on my mothers grave.
|
|
Silly. They wouldn't be attacking US citizens, they would be attacking "terrorists."

Don't forget the forcible disarmament of people during Katrina. I've got a lot of respect for the millitary, particularly since Im a veteran, but institutionally they've shown themselves to be lacking in this area. I think because of this we have a responsibillity to elect officials who wouldn't put them in such situations. |

Had a captain friend in us army, signal corps, but in an infantry div.
He liked to shoot guns occasionally, but when I asked if he would confiscate from civilians, he answered, "Yes, if they told me to." No qualms. |

This thread is certainly not RustedAce bait.
Edit: I would personally head up to the recruiter and sign up so I that I could participate in the confiscation/looting. Sounds like a good time. |

Yes.
You would be considered a terrorist, therefor probably would be shot on sight. |

Much to my disgrace those were Oklahoma National Guardsmen they showed in that one video that was on Youtube that spun around for the longest time. The one with the SP4 talking about what he was doing. That is why I say If it is Reservists and Guardsmen at home I am not as worried. If it is elsewhere then all bets are off, which is what I think they would do, send a unit to your home from another state. That way there is no personal attachment to get in the way of them doing things to you they should not. |

No qualms. i was signal in an infantry division but the brigade i was in in that division was a logistics brigade and i was in a signal company inside of that logistics brigade and i can assure you that 95% of signal officers couldn't confiscate money from a self-sponsored car-wash, let alone weapons from the general population i think we're good |

In 1995 or thereabouts, the was a movie with Dustin Hoffman where the Air Force was ordered to drop a fuel-air bomb on a town to stop an outbreak of some super-virus. Anyway, the crew refused to drop the bomb, and I remember my classmate who was an Air Force vet age 36 or 38 who laughed at the idea that they would refuse those orders. I think we were talking about this very question, so yes I think they would.

The locals weren't up to the brutality the task required. |

Some would... Some wouldn't. I used to think that in any major disaster or emergency, police and military would be helping citizens out. Katrina changed my mind on that. Before this looks like cop/mil bashing: I know the vast majority wouldn't act that way. But even a minority doing so worries me. |

Politics. Mubarak was part of the Egyptian military regime that ran the country. In order to isolate itself from the rage directed towards Mubarak, the military played nice. It helped draw a sharp line in the populace's mind between the military (which still runs the show) and Mubarak. |

I guess we'll see what happens in November. |
