I was thinking that if a small amount of chlorine or bromine can cholorinate a huge public swimming pool then would it be possible to chlorinate an entire city full of water? Just wondering if anyone has considered this and if it could work.

Not really. There is particulate matter that needs to be filtered out first, then the water can be purified and treated. Furthermore, chlorine isn't going to do anything about the chemicals in the water that shouldn't be there (petroleum distillates, solvents, fertilizers and other stuff that's probably not good for you).

Yep unless you get rid of the organic matter (shit, dead bodies human and animal, ect.) even if you had enough chlorine and a way to deliver it (which we don’t) to kill the bacteria present now chlorine dissipates rapidly in open water and in 24 hours you got the same problems as before.

They still would be peeing in the pool. Besides think how pissed the democrat's voting base would be if they accidentally bleached out all the recently looted (stolen) clothes in the city.

The mind boggles at how to get the appropriate parts per million of chlorine (calcium hypochlorite?) to make that water at least not having creepy crawlies in it.

How would deliver it and mix it in if you had that much on hand.

Please don't do it while the looters are still swimming.

God only knows how much Cl2 would be required to reach a residual of 2.0 mg/L in that shithole.

Drop a couple of chlorine tankers into the mess.

It would be much more cost effective (And appropriate) to bleach the gene pool.
