"Male" "Female"?
From wiki:

A requirement was found for two types of armament, so Mark Is were armed either with 6 pounder guns and four machine guns and called "Male" (75) or two Vickers machine guns instead of the 6 pounders and called "Female" (75).[2]

That A7V was as big as a house. Amazing how far tank technology has come in less than 100 years.

Yeah, I would have thought that tank warfare would have been much more dynamic in WWI. I guess they were trying to get the tanks to be all things to all people - cross a 10 ft ditch, become a portable machine-gun station, etc. They should have used light, quick tanks with machine guns as breakout weapons.

Would have worked better. As I recall, France was headed that way at the close of the war with the FT17 (?).

Don't forget the hermaphrodite tanks.

They had a 6lbr on one side, and the MGs on the other.
