Like osprey says: buy yourself a better tax accountant, or at least some tax software. I'd rather owe 'em up to the max. allowable and use a year's interest on ammo or something else. Taxes are not a savings account! If you can't emotionally handle paying them 4 figures at the end of they year, at least fix it so you don't owe anything. (Almost got it right this year myself, only getting a $200 refund [:)])

I think it only fair that since I am sending in 2 large, that you split your windfall with me! [;)]  After all, the Dems want redistribution of wealth, and I could use the cash. [:D]

A decent accountant would cost you more than $4,000 would earn sitting in an interest bearing savings account for a year (Which it would not be anyway. It would build up incrementally over that year) At current rates, you'd be lucky to see $100 in interest. Big whoop. Let's go pay $200-$300 just so we can save $100. Smart plan there.

After getting burned for $5,000 one year, I'd much rather get money back than play the beat-the IRS game just for a measely $100-$200 in interest I might have gained. Due to additional deductions, my wife and I are getting a refund of almost $5,000 this year.

I'm getting almost $5k, but it has to go to pay some old debt left over from my divorce.

I can thank my tax guy for some of it.  He pointed out that I can write off bad PERSONAL debt.  An acquaintence who owes me some money went to prison last year, for a long time.
