How do you tell the difference in a Winchester model 94 if it's "pre 64" or "post 64"?

Thanks,

If you can't tell just by looking you can go by the serial numbers. The cut off for pre 64 is about 2700000. That's approximate, but close.
Another way is the pre 64 guns all have a steel buttplate. The later guns don't. Once you look at a few, you'll be able to tell.
