I will go to XP soon, as well.  I'm really into gaming and I have 512 MB of SDRAM, but I want more, and Winxp will recognise it.

With aXP pro Running now for 2 months I thinks it the best operating system since 95. Stable fast, full control, fast. Did I say fast. although their Idea of simple networking needs adjusted.

Wonder how it would run on a 350mhz machine?? Bad I bet. But have been debating throwing it on my laptop (750mhz). Does XP Pro come with any of the power management (battery life, etc..) or is there a "special" version for that?

I'm running XPro CorpEd on my old Dell Laptop at work.  P233 with 64mb.  It runs circles around 95, 98 and even 2k.  It has the power saving stuff build in.  I'd say it's as fast as ME is on my coworkers 600mhz P2 laptop.
Not worth U$200 to me but then I have a ADSL connection with 1.5mb download speed. :-)

Might have to see if I can get the company to spring for a copy then. ME is killing my laptop and I am getting way tired of the lock ups.

I used WinXP for a few weeks, and went back to Win2K last night.

Has many annoying crap like WinME had, and is slower than Win2K...

Running a 1.6Ghz AMD TBird, 512MB Crucial PC2100DDR, Geforce2 Ultra, couple of 40GB ATA133 drives, DVD ,CDRW and the usual gamer's crap...

WinXP was ok, but now that I have compared to two side by side, I feel that Win2K Pro is the better OS, for me at least...

Oh, and before any of you smartasses)grin) try to correct me by telling me that my 1.6Ghz TBird is not really 1.6Ghz, that that is a PR rating and all that crap...  hehehe

It is not an AthlonXP 1600+ chip.

It is a normal 1.4Ghz TBird that came unlocked, and is overclocked to 1.6Ghz on my new KT266a motherboard...

At work someone just upgraded from ME to XP, and XP gave him the worst time.  I hear it prefers it's drivers over the currently installed drivers.

The guy hated ME and now XP.

Anyone else try an upgrade from win98?

Agree 100%. I always set my system up with at least 4 partitions.
C: System
D: Applications
E: Games
F: Storage

That way when I do my annual reinstall my files are all where I left them. Just make your "My Documents" short cut point to the storage drive. Then you can re install all the apps and games back to the current locations on the d and E drives and they for the most part retain any settings and data.

Unless you're using corporate licensing, you'll be calling Microsoft to obtain a new installation code for every XP re-install.

Upgrades Suck!
I always seem to forget something and end up spending hours getting it perfect.

I have a Mac and recently decided to upgrade to OS X.
I figured before I did the upgrade I'd tear everything apart and take the tower outside and use a can of air and clean the dust out.
I spent hours re-running cables to my printers/scanners/drives/ect.
Got everything back together and ran the install disk and then rebooted into Mac OSX and the computer freezes.
Luckily it gave me a straight forward error code that it couldn't handle my PCI/SCSI 2 card so I boot back to the old system and download the new drivers.

New drivers won't load unless I'm booted into OSX and I can't boot into OSX with the card installed and I've lost all momentum.
I hate that I'll have to tear the whole system apart just to get the card out so I can load one stinking driver!

At least I didn't delete my checking account this time!
