Every time I see it on the A-Team, I sure regret that it doesn't shoot better.

That, and that Ruger would get their collective heads out of their asses and offer the folding stocks ad hi-cap mags to the peasants again!

About 20 years ago, a buddy of mine had a stainless factory folder.  Had a flash suppressor on it and the mags (which I guess were factory hi-caps) never jammed.  Never handled it enough to tell about accuracy, etc., but that was a damn cool carbine that folded into a pretty small space.

If I could buy that exact gun, with factory mags that functioned properly, I would probably do it and have the barrel and accuracy issues improved (up to a realistic $ amt.).

But this won't happen due to Ruger's policies about mere mortals and firearms

Even here in California they suck and most people know it.  A lot of people get the Kel-tec SU-16 now instead of the mini-14!  Less durable but still more accurate.

Nothing wrong with the Mini14 other than they're innacurate and quality hicap mags are hard to find and expensive.  I've had two and they've been reliable and good shooters as long as one is willing to accept 6" groups at 100 yards.  In other words, AK accuracy.  They can be tightened up a bit withouth spending much money, but to get the average Mini under 4 inches at 100 you're going to spend some bucks.  Most intelligent people soon discover that selling the Mini and buying an AR makes more sense.

I started killing milk jugs at 100 with a mini 14 at the age of 6.  There will always be a soft spot for me with that rifle, the same gun is still at my Dad's house to this day, with choice of factory wood stock, side folding stock, and bullpup stock.

BTW... Bill Ruger Jr. passed away recently, I wonder if now the company will reconsider making 30 rd mags for the Mini?

I've owned three - one ranch rifle and two mini 14's. All three were reliable, and you could also rely on the fact that they "patterned"  rather than "grouped". Worst accuracy of any centerfire rifle I've ever fired. I still can't believe I bought two more after owning the first one.  Happily, all three are someone else's problem now.

Whenever I begin to doubt, I pull out the Mini-14 and shoot a 7 inch pattern at 100 yds. Afterwards I am thankful for my ARs.

I had a mini-14 and it was a decent fun gun to shoot.  I don't think it will improve sales that ruger basically doubled the price on it recently without changing anything other than the shape of the stock.

A comeback implies that it has faded. While the loyalties of this site are obvious simply from its name, the reality is that the Mini still has a following and probably wont be going anywhere anytime soon. The fact that it is still one of the few allowed semi's in a state like Cali doesn't hurt it, either. I may not shoot my Mini very often, but  it certainly has no major faults that would make me to label it as a  lost cause.

Both the front are rear sights have changed in the current version. I'm happy with the one I bought in the mid 90's for $298.00 NIB.

I have a stainless mini-14 ranch rifle, it will shoot 2-3 inches at 100yds with a scope, now that is not great but it certainly aint bad either. The barrel is definitely the weak link. Some fine tuning and they are a fun gun to shoot and have. A poor man's AR,and they are made in the USA.

I've had one for 16 years now (My first rifle), never jammed with factory or old Eagle mags...
Only cleaned it once that entire time too...
Can't comment on 100+ yards accuracy though, never shot one that far out.

they are not known for jamming but for being inherently inaccurate. throw away the USA mags as most are not that great and stick with the factory mags

+1 on the factory mags. The ruger factory mags are far superior to any of the aftermaket brands that I have used.  I have owned a ruger mini-14 for about 15 yrs now, and have been very happy with it. The iron sights are not nearly as accurate as an AR, but it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. I have shot several thousand rounds through mine with very few problems.

I used to have one of the stainless ranch rifles that threw a pattern as opposed to a group. After messing about for 12 or 15 years I sold it off,I did allright as I had a basket of factory mags that I had bought for peanuts years ago. This is how I bought my first AR so I can't bitch.
If the powers that be at ruger could , 1) do something to get the average rifle to group down around 3 " with ball ammo and slightly better with better ammo , 2)start kicking out factory mags in 20 +30 round size for $25 each, 3) hold price to say $450 for standard stock and $550 for the folder, I think they would sell bunches of them.
I am not going to sell my ar's to buy one ,not sure I would buy one at all (I can't have a folder here in ct) but seems like there is a market there if Ruger would open their eyes

I shot my Uncle's mini 14 while inTX this fall.  I was not impressed, to say the least.  My Dad was convinced he wanted one, so I let him shoot my Bushy carbine next to the mini 14.  It was like night and day, the Ruger was heavy and VERY inaccurate, while my Bushy was shooting tight groups at 100yds.  Not to mention the Ruger was scoped.  My Dad is now a Bushmaster man.  My stepmom's friend works for Ruger in NH, I've heard that the gas operating system is being redesigned??
