From a practical standpoint I doubt anything he says will change his fate. I don't know if we, er, the Iraqis, will get away with putting him to death, but he's not going anywhere so I don't see why he would bother telling anyone anything.

However his surrender, when he had a pistol and two AKs available to him and his apparently telling the soldiers who he was and that he wanted to negotiate shows a weakness of will and maybe a failure on his part to realize how F-ed he is.

A good interrogator can get a lot of people to talk, I don't mean with a "bolivian telephone" or by dangling him over sharks either. So I suspect he may blab once he gets done with saying BS to try to make himself and his dupes sound better.

He already has. News reports on the radio and Fox News this morning that we have already rounded up "several" "leaders" of the insurgency...

Wring him out for all he's worth, then air-drop the carcass into downtown Baghdad sans parachute....

He will use intelligence regarding the French and Germans to cut himself a deal. The French and Germans will use the UN to pressure the US and Iraq to turn him over to the Hague for trial.

He will use the info to either get out of the death penalty or may even try and get himself exile, which is extremely doubtful but you never know.

Nothing he says will avert his death sentence, so there's no incentive for him to talk.

i imagine the dude will be a "Guest" of the US Govt. for a long time. eventually he will be tried and sentenced to life in "Jail". what could he tell us. where the mythical WMD are? even if they do exist, i doubt if he knows (anymore).

i am not sure how the deal in the spider hole went down. maybe it went something like this. US forces open the hole. shout in Arabic for everyone to come out or they will throw in a grenade. Saddam shouts back who he is and he is coming out. in that situation that is what i would do. sorry if you didn't get your cowboy ending but Saddam isn't stupid.

He'll tell us things we need to know.
He'll return all the money from his secret accounts that he has back to Iraqi people, probably billions of dollars.
He'll talk to trade off for his fate.

That's what I hope anyway.

I believe that the soldiers were about to toss some grenades down the hole, I assume after yelling that they were going to do that and he said who he was and said he wanted to negotiate.

A true heroic arab would have ineffectually fired out through the hole, hit the wall and been fragged to jelly. I'm not saying that I think I would gone out blasting but his surrender means he sits in a cell forever or, now as I hear more, will face a firing squad. By forcing himself to be shot at least he would harm his enemies by being a martyr.

Actually, that may not be the case. While it's pretty certain that he will be tried and executed, he may not necessarily know that. We could be pitching him the idea that he could be tried in international court and sentenced to life. After all, he clearly demonstrated his desire to continue sucking air.

As long as he breaths, the people of Iraq will hedge their support for democracy, in case he gets loose. Also, Muslims will be taking hostages all over the world to negotiate his release.

Better he sould take a dirt nap.
