With the anticipated storm surge, it is quite possible, maybe even probable that the course of the Mississippi (especially at the delta) will change.  Bringing in the Army Corp of Engineers to restablish the old channel may work if it can be done in a hurry.  But after a few days to a few weeks with a new channel, it may be impossible to redirect the channel.

Any thoughts or guesses?

A bigger problem might be what the receding storm surge drags into the river.
