Will there ever be a better gun for TEOTWAWKI,HD,LE ect...???Even in these great times with all the new guns in the last few years, I just don't see it happening? Such a simple design, so easy to service, reliable, on and on...I've ditched them in the past and tried others as my main "go to gun" only to keep going back

Yes . Remember at one point Smith and Wesson revolvers owned the same space .
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:48:05 PM EDT
Probably not in the next 10-20 years.

Very true, but will we have a revolutionary leap ahead for handguns again like that?
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:50:07 PM EDT
Yes but not by anything using a conventional cartridge.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:50:15 PM EDT
They will be the king until we have energy pistols.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:50:25 PM EDT
It's already happened. SIG is where it's at

Already have. Glocks are reliable, but aren't special. At this point buy any quality pistol of your choice (Glock included), and you're GTG.

It will be a Glock Phased Plasma Handgun in the 40 Watt range that dethrones Glocks.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:52:09 PM EDT
Yes, I think Sig will take over.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:54:51 PM EDT
When it comes right down to it, I believe we've just about apexed with Glock and ARs respective of their areas of application.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:54:53 PM EDT
Nope.

Maybe if a high bore axis, excessive width and limited parts availability ever become the rage.

If anyone dethrones them it will be their own doing....the Gen4 and MIM shit is a good start at kicking their own legs out from themselves....

Is this a rhetorical question?  Of course not.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 9:57:41 PM EDT
On the one hand, they're resisting innovation as hard as they can.  In a day when people want to suppress everything, they finally start making some factory threaded barrels and not only are they rare as hen's teeth, but they're in the wrong thread patterns for American suppressors.

On the other hand, there's just not a lot more you can do with cartridge pistols.  It's been a hundred years since the bigger breakthroughs, and the advances today are all in materials, coatings and finishes, not the mechanical technology.

If we go another 50 years before some fundamentally better technology (laser, rail gun) replaces cartridge guns, then I think Glock will be marginally dethroned, but the victor wont be that much better.
If we only hang on to cartridge guns for another 20 years before moving on to newer technology, Glock will still be on top.

Prob don't even own a gun, just read about em. High bore axis is an excuss developed by thuose who suck at shooting. You will be okay, one day you may be able to handle one too.

Anything is possible. I don't think it will be for at least 10 years though

This is possible. Got a P320 the other day...have to admit it shoots a little better than my Glocks for me.

Not by another company stuck on reinventing the wheel. It's going to take a great new idea or a technological advance.

I think the P320 will dethrone it within ten years if a few things happen:

- P320 builds a positive LE/mil reputation in real shooting situations over the years.
- Aftermarket products for the P320 become as available and affordable as Glock products.
- Sig unfucks their customer service.

If these three things happen, the legendary Glock will have been dethroned.

I haven't shot a P320 but I have a P250 other than the long trigger pull it is the second best shooter for me. The pistol I shoot more accurately is my FNP-45. I have Glocks but do not shoot them very well.
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 10:07:37 PM EDT
Nope, and if so... not any time soon.... the only second close IMO is the Sig 320

He has a valid point, I'm far quicker back on target with a gun that has a low bore axis. Simple physics

Do you have a hammer? Yes, just a simple hammer in your tool box (do you have a tool box, do you have tools.....?)
What does your hammer do?
That is your Glock. It's not pretty, it's not your most expensive tool. It is a hammer. It does what it's supposed to do.
And it does it well.

Not aimed at OP, just general.

Eventually, yes. But for now, "LONG LIVE THE KING"! When technology does finally catch up with Glock, it won't be an American idea, that's for sure! You see the SHIT we've been turning out for the past 30yrs!

I hear you though...I've tried many different hammers, and will prob. try a few more. But I always keep picking up the old one

For the price and reliability, it's pretty hard to beat. I don't see anything taking that spot anytime soon. Fuck Gen 4.

Glock is and will always be...the gun to get!
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 10:15:28 PM EDT
I'm sure they work great for others, but I did not care at all for the ergonomics or the trigger.
It came across as a Harbor Freight hammer.  Sure, it works, and it'll reliably get the job done, but it's not anything special.

Glock is the AK of handguns....It's history has been made. When laser guns come out. Then they will take the throne...

Nope. Simple fun that works reliably. Great track record. Hard to beat that

Not until we have laser guns
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 10:29:51 PM EDT
The S&W M&P series seems to be giving Glock a run for it's money. I prefer my M&P 9 over my Glock 17. Of course I prefer my Glock 20 over, oh wait there's no 10mm M&P... haha
Link Posted: 6/18/2017 10:30:54 PM EDT
My nightstand and carry pistols are all Glocks, but I voted yes.

There are already many companies making polymer-framed, striker-fired, double-stack semi-autos that are just as reliable as a Glock and have better ergonomics. Just imagine what the future holds.

Only damn reason I remain so devoted to Glocks is that I have 2 decades of experience and muscle memory with them, and can work on them at home with hand tools. Might as well stick with what I'm invested in.
