My Mom's been pretty over the top on trying to get the whole family voting for GW. Pretty surprising since the rest of the family in PA is all Blue Collar Union workers.

We always talk every Sunday on the phone and lately she's been pretty incredulouas that my wife, who works for a White Collar Trade Union here in VA, is voting Kerry.

The wife and I have talked about it, (alot), and although I don't agree with her, I respect her opinion and she respects mine.

Well, after my mom got done talking to me today she talked to the wife and basically said that anyone voting for kerry was stupid.

While I don''t think EVERYONE voting for Kerry is stupid, I know for a fact my wife isn't.

She took it pretty bad a half hour later and was all upset and crying. There was yelling, (not from me), and she got ready to leave the house.

I called my mom up and told her she messed up and she should apologize. She agreed and told me she was sorry.

The wife wouldn't even take the phone and just left the house.

Jeez...NOW what?

Sorry to hear about it, but I'm glad you stuck up for your wife. I hope it all works out.

Who cares? This is what inlaws are all about. But thanks for proving how emotional the democraps are.
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:06:44 AM EDT
Why she would vote for Kerry is beyond me, but as it is, you'll have to comfort her in some way. Bush is gonna win, so be careful what you might say after tuesday. But, let her know this is best for nation's security..btw, buy your mom some roses and tell her thanks for being strong.
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:07:21 AM EDT
You did the right thing.

You have got to tell your mother she has to respect your wife or you are headed for trouble.
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:08:26 AM EDT
Typical liberal to run and boo hoo when the shit comes down. JUST KIDDING!!!

This is indeed an emotional election coming up and has EVERYONE on edge. Wednesday the anxiety of it all is over. But I am worrying about the AFTER EFFECTS should Kerry win. On 11-3 the dems will be saying "YAHOOOOOO!!!!"... But the Moderates will be saying "Oh shit... what did we do?"

Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:08:32 AM EDT
Did your wife hear you take her side? If so everything will be fine. I had to chew my mom out pretty good about criticizing my wife once and things got way easier after I did it.

Lets hope Bush wins, for all of us.

You've pretty much done what you could and should -- now it's up to the wopmen to work it out between them.

Your wife's wife's decision to vote for Kerry is stupid and very uneducated. Sorry, Im not going to sugar coat a bad decision. Your Mom was right and why YOU married a Democrap says alot about you as well.

sgtar15 made a good point about you leave your Mom and joins his wife. He left out one big point though. You are suppossed to be equally yoked. In essence, your suppossed to marry someone with your same morals and ideas for a proper marriage to work. Sounds like this wasn't done.

Funny you'd say that. I am happily married ONE time to the same woman for over 7 years and we are still best friends. Both my parents are Republicans, hers too, and we both share the same morals and values. We are equally yoked.

No. She knows about Kerry's anti gun stance. She doesn't agree with it. In fact she got HER CCW before I got mine.

Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:22:52 AM EDT
I'm glad you stuck by your wife. I can see why your mom is a Bush supporter, but that is out of line. She was talking to her daughter-in-law, and the mother of her grandchildren(or future grandchildren).
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:23:57 AM EDT
You stuck up for the wife, which is the correct thing to do. She'll get over it eventually. I think it hurt her so much because she deep down she knows it is the wrong thing to do, but your mom killed any chance of changing her mind.

Sooo, the important question becomes, how do you plan on subtly keeping your wife from the polls on Tuesday?

It doesn't really matter much in our state, does it?
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:26:38 AM EDT
Actually, I'm a Illinois resident, talk about throwing a pebble into an oncoming tidal wave...but my wife votes here. So at least mine will cancel yours.
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:27:00 AM EDT
Okay...okay...

Shit, I like your Mom already. And your wife is emotionally labile at best. Big surprise.
I'm with DOA on this one. I could never be married to a socialist either. No wonder so many of you guys have marital problems. What do you think you're going to get with one of these chicks? Emotionally unstable, internally conflicted women with enough baggage to fill a greyhound. LOL. I've been married to the same republican southern belle for 24 years and we get along great. She's the best thing that ever happened to me. My daughter is conservative and her boyfriend is hardcore Republican. I just set him up with an LMT no ban M4. We had friends over last night. Conservatives. I'm not lonely. Hell, I'd like a little more peace and quiet some days.

My dog is republican also.

No way. I disagree. Politics are down the list of requirements for people to co-exist. There is something call Love.

Just look at America now, we are "divided" but do you think this is going to kill us, get serious, no way, we have too many good things going.

You have to respect your wife and make your mother do the same. Things will work out at the end.

I am curious though, why she likes Kerry.

Hitler was also a Altar boy.
Link Posted: 10/31/2004 11:41:38 AM EDT
His Mom didn't call her stupid. She said that anyone who would vote for Kerry was stupid. That is different. If that is all it takes to get her waterworks flowing she'll be blubbering her way all thru her life. BFD.

I would have a hard time loving someone I don't respect and I have a pretty hard time respecting socialists with a penchant for destroying my freedoms. I also question their patriotism and am tired of everyone saying, "..but I don't question their patriotism." WTF not? They would see this country harmed in order to maintain power over us! I say piss on 'em. They'd be happier in Cuba.

Slightly offtopic, but I think what you just said was the most brilliant, common sense thing I have heard in a while. Everyone says "opposites attract" and what not - but I am coming to believe that the whole "opposites attract" thing does not apply to values and those fundemental moral beliefs everyone has. No matter how open minded I try to be - every liberal girl I have gone out with (disclaimer:stationed in Mass - not many conservative chics) has ultimately been a problem - even if they have a nice personality, etc - two people with moral values that are polar opposites cannot coexist together in my opinion. Its like having an evangelical Christian marry a Pagan - it doesnt make sense - at all.

Bulldog1967 - I hope everything works out for the best between you, your wife, and your mother - everyone is really tense now with the elections I think - I can't wait for it to be over.......hang in there.

Just reassure your love to your wife and everything will be alright...Considering your mom is more than willing to apologise

BTW: Your mom is right

Anyone voting for Kerry IS stupid, why in heaven's name would any sane person vote for higher taxes & less control over their personal life, to say nothing of pissing away the freedom that OUR ANCESTORS fought and died for 228 years ago? What? So she can get free health care? Who the hell is going to pay for it? So we can kiss and make up with the enemy? Worked for Chamberlain.

Sorry, but you are saddled with someone who runs on emotion, not logic, BTDT and thankfully she is now making some other poor bastard's life a living hell.

Look at it this way, if it was one of your buds instead of a woman, would you trust him? Seriously?

She needs to respect other people's opinions (like your Mom's) instead of throwing a hissy fit when people don't approve of her views. Unless of course she is still under 21, in which case she gets a bye for insufficient life experience.

How do you figure? Wait for a woman with some sense, and when you find one, you marry her. Lots of us have done it.

It's a propaganda war out there. People are being duped, suckered and led astray!

It's not their fault for being ignorant. Educate them.

Two way communication breaks down at the first insult. After that it's offensive and defensive postering. Keep it open, and explain it better.

Of course, when dealing with the hard-core Demo-socialists out there - Kick them in the nutz. They are beyond help.

I guess she's willing give up carrying to pay a little more in taxes????

Mom's right - you need to educate her. Book smarts don't always translate into real smarts.

Your mother is right about Kerry. Making it an issue within the family is showing a lot of disrespect to your wife and others. I won't let my parents drive wedges between my wife, my sisters and myself, although it seems to be their lifes' work.

I just love the crowd who chimes in that anyone who votes differently from them MUST by defintion be stupid. It must be nice to live in such a simple world. Personally, I think the attitude of demonizing and belittling people that disagree is a dangerous attitude, that only contributes to the divisiveness and polarization in the country.

As an example, my fiancee values her individual freedom. While we care a lot about guns on this site, she cares a lot about politicians keeping their hands out of her uterus . She is not "stupid" for voting for Kerry, she is smarter than most of you guys, she just has DIFFERENT priorities. She doesn't necessarily think Kerry is "better" in lots of ways, nor does she agree with all of his positions (nor does she give a rat's ass about haelth care or other entitlement bullshit)

There are people who CANNOT vote for Kerry because he is pro-choice. It has nothing to do with thier intelligence or lack thereof, it has to do with how committed they are to the things they believe in. By the same token, there are people who CANNOT vote for Bush because he is pro-life (from their perspective "anti-choice"), and this also has nothing to do with their intelligence or stupidity.

Welll.... let's all join hands and have a round of "Kumbaya". Not to attack your girlfriend's intelligence (well, maybe I am) but as far as I'm concerned anyone who votes for Kerry has serious judgment issues, which in turn calls into question their actual intelligence.

Aren't you both professors? Being so open-minded your brains fall out isn't a sign of intelligence.
