A new ruger 10/22, She was so proud she bought her first rifle..as I was checking it over I see this. What would you do? Id imagine this would cause any issues considering it is only a 22lr? Would you contact Ruger?

Tell your wife to pay better attention.  Also we have rules around here.

I'd throw it away and buy another.

Don't point it out to her.  It won't do any good.  It isn't hurting anything.  And, she brought a rifle home.  Don't discourage that!

Tap it with a Sharpie to get it to blend. Then shoot the hell out of it.

This.  It's her first gun purchase.  Going 'oh hey you bought the wrong one' will completely kill that for her.  If it acts up, Ruger will take care of her.  Beyond that, let her shoot the hell out of it and decide how she wants to set it up.  Btw, get one of those crank mag loaders.  They are ugly but they work great for loading 10/22 mags.

Small dent on the ejection port area.  Did I miss anything else?

Next time, inspect your purchase before you complete the paperwork.

Contact Ruger.....not me, just chuck it up to experience and go shoot it.

Aloha, Mark

Yep.  I might smooth it down with a file first, if the exterior edge was really noticeable to the touch.

I would be upset, but I'm not sure what ruger can do.  It's the serialized portion so they'd have to ffl another receiver to you to remedy.  You can't smooth that out.  The wood looks rougher than I'd hope too.  In the end, it's a $250 rifle, not a $1000 rifle.

1)Great rifle, but always inspect the merch before filling out any paperwork.  I denied a Henry Golden Boy at my LGS 3 times for imperfections.

2) No further comments until the pics of your wife load.... rules and all

Maybe touch it up with a small file to remove the burr/edge and touch it up with a sharpie or one of those birchwood casey pens.

I wouldn't worry about it.

He could, he wouldn't be "wrong" in doing so but it's really not that big of a deal.  It's a 10/22, very cheap rifle to begin with and it doesn't effect function.  It's not a new $60K truck with chipped paint or a dent.  Not really worth the bother in my opinion.  The big problem here is a lack of pictures.

this, she is proud , let her stay that way.  it is gonna be a shooter right not a safe queen so its already got a start on character.

Go back to the gun store and show them the defect. Tell them you need some compensation, like a few boxes of ammo.

Everyone wins. Wife still has the rifle that she bought. Gun store realizes they need to have a quick look over at items they sell. You have satisfaction of knowing that you took some action.

Ditto!  She went out and bought her first gun on her own....THAT is the ONLY important thing.

My new AR556 had some scratches on it. I watched them take it off the pallet, and cut it open, and take it out of the plastic. I still bought it because I figured it would get scratched eventually. I vote you let it go and then send it back if it acts up or something.

That said Ruger could use better packing or something as this is apparently a common problem.

Let her be proud of her first purchase.

A dab of cold blue you'll forget all about it.
