I try to stay fit, why is my wife's resting rate so much lower than mine??? ETA: wife says the more fit you are the lower your resting rate.

my reading

I am pretty sure I am at my prime, why is my heart rate so high????

Drink much caffeine?

How well hydrated were you during the measurement?
Link Posted: 1/7/2012 4:16:21 PM EDT
I'm about 50 and my BP readings are almost exactly what your are. It's a bit high if you are in really good shape [cardio heavy] but pretty much the norm for the typical guy.

Pic of wife didn't load. Try again.

I'm 110 over 50. I used to have super hypertension. Cut the salt out, use olive oil, eat your greens and keep exercising. I'm 25 and a fat ass on recovery. Also, enjoy all the small things in life - "take a chill pill".

Are you 7'10?
Link Posted: 1/7/2012 4:19:51 PM EDT
I'm 28, 5'11", 180... ish and my blood pressure is the same as yours. 120/70 is my normal and my doc has never mentioned it being out of place.

More running etc. will drop it

You have nothing to worry about.

it looks like you were at one of those drug store blood pressure test thingies. if you had been walking around (in the store, parking lot, etc) then its not a resting heart rate. if you had sat there for 10-15 min and tested again, it most likely would have shown lower...

Ummm...perhaps this has something to do with it? I took care of an extremely dehydrated kid yesterday with a HR in the 200's. Drink more water and aim for the more clear (i.e. NOT concentrated) urine and see what happens. Dehydration will stress the body out.

You, sir, are redeemed.

There's nothing wrong with that BP.
Link Posted: 1/7/2012 4:27:03 PM EDT
It looks like you used the machine in a store. If that is the case, your resting rate will not be accurate because you have been walking around.
Link Posted: 1/7/2012 4:27:29 PM EDT
Energy Drinks?

Although both of my parents are/were on medication for hypertension, I've always tended towards hypotension.

So, I dunno, genetics and happenstance?

Some people roll with brachycardia (me at 45 bpm) and some don't. I'm just a freak of nature. Test again and have someone who trained in such things take you bp instead of the machine at Walmart.

Friend friend friend, you do not want this. Please take this from someone with experience: WATER IS YOUR FRIEND! It is the best thing you can drink. Your kidneys are filters and they don't work if nothing is flowing through them! You want your water to be clear. The more water you pass the less likely (in most cases) of you developing kidney stones. You don't want kidney stones. They hurt. Bad. Real bad. They make you say things that you had no idea you were capable of saying. Did I say they hurt? They do.

I haven't read through the thread as I responded to your post right away. If you're a type A personality, try to find a way to relax. You're never "at rest".

I have a hard time with that. You are the poster child for a heart attack/stroke without meds.

~5'8' 200lbs here. My resting heart rate runs between 40 and 68. My BP is usually in the 130/74 range.

Anything under 140/90 is "normal" and so in a resting heart rate of 80 or less.

I think you are obsessing because you have read too much bullshit (and believed it) about "fitness."

Forget your wife's vital signs, it isn't a goddam competition.

If you are really worried, trot your ass off to a physician and have a complete physical and blood workup.

Carry on eating healthy, balanced meals, get a reasonable amount of exercise, and try to forget half of what people tell you.

Good luck.

Her natural baseline may be lower.

However....take yours lying dowh and hers lying down, and you'll probably be a bit lower than you are, and she'll be closer to her 'normal'.

Oh, yeah, she's hot....How'd an ugly guy like you wind up with her?

Those machines in the store are usually off. My station is next to a Publix that has one and we get people that walk in all the time freaking out about their BP. We take it manually and with OUR monitor and they are within normal range. 126/70 is pretty good.
