That's why I say he's drunk the koolaid. Look, for statistics to be valid several things have to be true, such as: (1) you are measuring a random event; and (2) you measure enough of them to get a high degree of confidence. Both of these statements are false to some degree in all the social sciences, and they are particularly false with regards to a Presidential election. These are not random events, and there are so few of them that even if they were, you could not get a reliable sample size (which generally has to be over 100).

Sabato just reads the polls like everybody else. He's pretty good at distilling the conventional wisdom. The thing is, he's usually right. So are Nate Silver and Charlie Cook. All of them have called the election for Hillary. If Trump somehow wins, it's going to be a major embarrassment for the entire political pundit class. Look, even Trump himself, deep down, knows he's going to lose. That's why he's making plans for a TV network, etc., after the election.

He's driven me nuts since the 1990s. Even then it was clear that media had selected him to be the official "insightful poli sci guy" that they could bring out whenever they needed somebody to put an academic / quasi-objective sheen on whatever the dominant narrative was for the given week.

If you listen to him, he never says anything that wasn't already expressed by pundits, and never brings anything insightful to his interviews.

He was/is supposed to be a pretty good professor though.
