It pains me to show my driver's license when I travel. I don't want people to think that I am from the state that issued it.

I can understand this. It is still annoying when people start talking in posts about a geographical location like we are supposed to know what part of the country it is, when we can't know because it is not listed. But at least this reason is more understandable than people who think that posting their state will either protect them from the government, or stop regular people who truly want to, from tracking them down.

I have my state selected, but I'm one of those cases mentioned above where I'm not from the state I'm in now, and I would much rather be identified with my home state than my current address.

I fixed that dilemma by selecting an appropriate username.
