I picked up a CZ550 Varmint Laminate in .308 a few years ago after I got a chance to shoot a friends 550 in .22-250.  The set trigger on the CZ550's is awesome....probably better than any aftermarket trigger I have used.  As far as accuracy goes, with my reloads (168gr SMK's pushed by Varget) I can get reliable 4 shot groups at 100yds under 3/8"...with a best of .257".  I'm amazed at how accurate these rifles are when you dial them in with good loads.

I always hear talk about Remington 700's and other rifles used for accuracy....but not much about the CZ.  Why is that?

Just wondering....

I've been looking at one in 223, want a light jeep gun for the ranch and like the detachable mag.

Lack of aftermarket support would be my guess for the lack of attention, Remington and Savage have a ton of aftermarket stuff available.

Yes, I agree. I would love to get a bigger mag for it....but NOBODY makes aftermarket stuff of them.  If I remember right, I even had a hard time tracking down scope mounts that would fit it. It takes special mounts just for the 550.

My CZ550 .308 was my first rifle. My Mom bought it for me.

You do hear a lot about them, just not on this forum.

CZ makes a solid rifle, and a wide range of them (from a decent .22LR bolt action (now that hardly anyone else makes one) to a .223 sporter, to varmint rifles, tactical rifles, medium bore rifles, and a wide range of African/dangerous game rifles in many calibers.

The 550s have a Mauser-style controlled round feed action.  I think most all of the rifles come standard with a single set trigger.  The 550s used to sport a very Central European-style hogback stock/schnabel foreend tip and come with sights, although they (or the importer, CZUSA) has been building rifles to 'American' specs over the last 5-10 years (clean barrels, straight comb stocks, etc).

The best gun I never bought was a CZ 550 European in 9.3x62  It was at the tail-end of the American production run and the vendor had sold out.  Ended up getting a credit and using it towards an RCBS Rockchucker reloading press instead.

Nice!

When I got mine a few years ago they were around $600...now I think they are closer to $800 if not more.  By far the best shooting rifle I have ever owned.

Partly the scope mounts and partly the disgusting lack of marketing on their behalf. Their handguns do not impress me, but the rifles are very accurate, nicely executed, and not expensive. Unfortunately for them, it takes more than word of mouth to grab market share from established makers.

CZ makes a good rifle.  Mine are especially nice.

Wayne Jacobsen at American Hunting Rifles does good work...

So you are shooting .308 but your best group is .257?

Dang those CZ guns must be GOOD!

I would love a 550 Safari Magnum in .375 H&H.  Nice wood, good sights, and probably the most versatile rifle round ever made.  I think that's going to be my "Happy Birthday to me" present

cz's are good the end. I've been trying to keep that secret IOT keep the price down by way of low demand

Please tell me that you know how to properly measure a "Group".  You go off point of impact..not bullet diameter.  If someone shoots 5 rounds of .223 through the same hole...guess what, that group is much smaller than .223.

Love my 550 in 223. Worked up a load with 50g vmaxs that does well under 1" from a bench at 100 yards.
More than good enough for how I shoot it.

Was going to buy a CZ for hunting because the research I had done indicated that they were excellent for the price but then I unexpectedly inherited my dad's Savage.

I measured the widest part of the outer edge of tholes in the group...that was .565".  Then you subtract the bullet diameter (.565-.308 = .257).

Geese....think before you toss up the BS flag.

Here is a picture of a .342" 5-shot group.  Your "group" has nothing to do with bullet diameter..you subtract that our of your measurements.

The CZ rimfires are made better than many companies centerfire rifles.
Real iron sights, a cold hammer forged barrel, not a sleeved affair...etc

Lighten up!

To answer your question, CZ doesn't have much presence in the USA.

As far as I know, not many law enforcement agencies use it, federal agencies, US military, etc and that is probably a large part for selling a brand to the mass consumer.

There are many CZ rifles, but this one is mine . . . (6.5x55mm)

CZ makes some of the best all around rifles on the market right now. I have a 527 American in .22 Hornet with a fixed 4x that serves as my "walking gun" and I've killed just about every varmint around with it. On rabbit sized critters I can hold dead on and hit out to about 160 yards. Coyote sized out to around 200. Farther than that takes a little hold over. With single loaded 40 grain Vmax's pushed by an over book amount of Lil Gun you can go around 180/230 without any holdover.

Super lightweight, set trigger, reasonably priced, freakishly accurate, comparatively quiet, cheap to reload for.. Hard to beat.

I have a CZ 453 .22  rifle and love it! I also have 3 of there pistols and shoot the crap out of them. Never any failures and very accurate! CZ are very underrated.

I wish they would bring back the pop up aperture sights on the receiver bridge.  I'd love to use their rifles as the basis for a scout rifle, a medium rifle, and a heavy rifle if they had the peep sights (for now I'll have to go with older production versions).
