I pulled one, it says lead core based, yet it sticks to a magnet. Its copper jacket, am i having a brainfart, whats going on ?

Who said the jacket was copper? the guy at the Gunstore? Its probably mild steel with a copper wash.

I was saying the jacket was copper . Damn sure looks like it. I got 940 rounds of it and a type 56 norinco for $200 a while back.

Not good nor bad; cheaper to manufacture.

Some ranges don't allow steel jacketed ammo, though.  

No, it doesn't enhance penetration, if that's what you were wondering.

Nothing wrong with a steel jacket. But if you have the tolls you might wanna cut open a bullet anyway, it also may have a steel core. Then you got a real treasure! It will penetrate Body armor better and is worth more money than lead core. What manufacture is the cartridge? China? Anything from China made before 1993 has a strong possability of being steel core, more so the stuff where the whole cartridge is steel case with a copper wash.
