Whenever you open the freezer part of my fridge and close it again, it makes this low pitched whistling sound for 3-4 seconds. Any ideas?

Unfortunately my fridge does not own any guns, so if it dies there won't be any to be had by arfcommers.

Does it have anything to do with the suction of the freezer when it closes?  Is there a hole in the rubber/foam around the edges?

Just checked. I don't think that's it. If anything the noise sounds like it's from the back of the fridge.

There could be ice built up around a fan in the motor

Quoted:
I will give you the short and long answer

Short Answer: Normal

Long Answer: Heat is attracted to cold, When you open your freezer, warm air rushes in, you get what item you want then close the door... the warm air is then dragged across the evaporator coil thus creating a momentary vacuum as it contracts. Now as it creats this vacuum, it can get the balance of air from either the drain tube (giving you a whooshing or whistling noise) or even through the flashing (corner) of the gasket where there is no magnet and is the weakest spot of the gasket.

hope that helps.

Yeah, he's got it right.  You should try it with a -120 degree freezer. The door sucks closed so hard that it's impossible to open the door for a few minutes.

Thanks, DrFrige. I got busy at work and didn't read my own thread for a few days. I appreciate the input.
