I love it! I love older and newer music too, but the music of the '90s is king!

I have never heard it get a bad rap. It's one of the best decades ever.

Holy shit, you kidding? Some people here HATE it, and think the '80s was the great era of music.

Because earlier music was created by artists who had to get by through talent and work their way through crappy clubs. Madonna, the Beatles, Queen, CCW, you name it.
In the 90's the music industry was hijacked by those assholes in the Clear Channel monopoly. Music was no longer music, but a commercial product every bit as mass produced as McDonalds food, and every but as tasteless. You could have the shittiest artist whose music sounds like putbulls fighting accompanies by diseased monkeys banging pots and pans, ad it will reach the top 40 simply becuase of its corporate backing. It only got even worse from there- there are times I think Justin Bieber was set out as a practical joke on us from the beginning. |

Third Eye Blind - their self titled album - was that 90s? Better than Ezra - Deluxe - was that 90s? You will be hard pressed to find finer music, IMO. If you don't have these CDs, for God's sake get them. Timeless perfection. |
|
What's weird is everything just sort of died after the 90s. There is no "sound" of either of the 2000s and 2010s decades that I can think of.

And the 90s sequels like Rocky V and Alien 4 and Jason Goes To Hell were the best of the franchises! And man, let me tell ya, that CGI in the 90s was the most realistic stuff I've ever seen! And the computers? Gotta love those gigantic desktops with half the memory and power of a laptop today! Clinton? Best. President. EVER. |

It only got a bad rap from us who heard music from decades before the 90s.
After the 90s we all wished it would be that good again.... |

Most who say 90's music sucks are referring to Pop, Rock, Top-40, etc. The 90's saw Grunge, Rave, Ambient, Rap, Hip-Hop, Club, House, and a host of other
Indie College music wipe Rock and Roll from the radio. It sucks big time compared to past decades. There are a few Gems though. |

Country went full pop rock, metal became all screamo, blues died, rap went fucking stupid who cares, pop and "rock" is all computer generated shit. Shit. Still great bands and acts , but shit just sucks now. |

I'm just not seeing it for the 2000/2010 era. Maybe it's just me but it's a blur of nothing. Maybe it's just me getting old, I dunno but I just don't see it. |

Today pop and rap sound the same, country is now pop and rock has gotten mellower with the exception of a few select bands. |

For me the 90's were a sad time because at some point rock and roll became almost universally uncool. The gangsta rap fad was in full swing though, and the 90's even gave us a pathetic new term: Wigger. Having long hair and playing guitar got you laid in the 80's, and in the 90's it became a cock blocker.
GUITAR SOLOS WENT GOODBYE IN THE 90's!!! Slash was one of the last greats. No one gives a shit about guitar players anymore. Rock still existed obviously, but it had to be "grunge" in order to get on the radio, and after Curt Cobaine blew his head off, grunge pretty much died too. The biggest change was that rock bands in the 70's and 80's were mega bands, whose albums were amazing, and every song on them were worthy of worship. After the 90's every album gets one or two hits, and the rest meh. The era of rock gods seems to be dead. Looking back on it now, I'd say the 90's was a transition period from real musicians to techno/dubbing/DJ's. |

Because there's a large 45+ demographic here who prefers pre-90s music.
I turned 16 in 1990, so I naturally have an affinity for the music of that decade. My favorite band is Alice in Chains, whose heyday ran concurrent with many heavy experiences I had while coming of age. We can argue all day about which music sucks and which music rules, but I believe it really comes down to what we listened to between the ages of 15-25. |

I'm gonna post some real music: the 40s the 50s the 60s the 70s the 80s the 90s were grundge radiohead greenday shit fest that was bad the defacto leader of it blew his own head off. |

Chili Peppers are actually an 80's band (at least thats when i first saw them live)

Meh.... The 90s and some early 2000s was the last time a lot of good music was made. Nowadays we some good stuff but a lot of main stream stuff is horrible.
|

90's pop music sucked about as bad as anything, including todays modern top 40 country. 90's college rock was awesome.
|
|
Why does 90's music get a bad rap?
The answer is pretty much in the question. For me anyway. The 90's marked the "mainstreaming" of "gangsta" rap and modern ghetto style "R&B." It was the start of the end for our culture. |

There is a ton of great music in all decades...before 2000. Then it's in spots, at best.
There are a few bands that have laid tracks in this new millenium that I love, but few and far between...and most will never see American radio play. |

The 90s paved the way for Nickelback.
Nickelback has owned the music world since they arrived. No one has ever looked back. |
