I'm talking about a decent sized one.  Not a small cut or something.  And no pain killers.  Just cleaned up and bandaged.

Is it just pyschological?

My amputated thumb hurt way worse after it was bandaged.

Because air is no longer getting to it?

eta:  you also said cleaned up so the microbes/bacteria in the wound and on the skin itself were cleaned out and a majority of them are no longer there

Maybe it just looks better when the wound is covered up? Out of mind out of sight?

I would guess that since it is covered it is not exposed to changes in temperature as much, not exposed to air blowing across it, and is held in place and doesn't move nearly as much anytime you do anything.  All those would reduce the aggrivation of the wound and help to keep it out of your mind.

Everything always hurts worse when you can see it. Particularly when you cut yourself to the bone.
