I think anyone would be lying if they said that they didn't have a little bit of a cowboy mentalty. I know I do. On the other hand, I fell in love with the way it shoots.

I'm gonna make it simple.  Because I WANT to, just like I WANT to have a fast car, a nice stereo system, a nice home theater system, etc.

Besides, it's a good homeland/home defense rifle.

This has happened three times to my wife and me.  Twice on auto accidents (and we got screwed on the insurance outcome do to no police report) and one prowler that ended up being a bounty hunter (that almost died that night) looking for a guy that was already in jail![50]

Mainly because I can.  That and I used to instruct M-16 in the USMC.  Now I get to shoot my first HP match Sunday.

I own an AR15 because I wanted a modern, accurate, all-purpose firearm. Granted, I use it only for punching holes in paper now, but if the world starts changing for the worse it should serve me well.(along with the Rem 870 i have)

I wanted a .45 and an AR-15 because of a sentiemental conection I have with the guns due to my time in the Army first and foremost.  I also just wanted a pistol and a rifle because I like guns, I like to shoot, and I wanted someting for selfdefence.  Im not a "gun guy" or collector so I didnt want a whole armory. The 2 guns also do not have any problematic weakness. It only made sence to own the 2 guns that I know best and was trained on.

I wanted to feel like a big man.

The real reason is that there might be a time in my life where I need to be self sufficient and fend for myself (and the others who didn't prepare).  I don't want to be stuck in a SHTF scenario without the equipment and the know how I posses today.

Frankly I own AR-15s because they now cannot be legally acquired in California.

Had the state never enacted its foolish "assault weapon" laws, I very likely would not own any AR-15s.

Heh Heard that comment on CNN and bust out laughing. CNN's lower crawl also says that the AR-15 is commercially available nationwide. Guess CNN hasn't heard about California.

I don't own an AR-15 because the government say's I can't. I do own a pair of Colt Match rifles for target shooting.

Some member of my family has served in everyone of our countries wars since the French & Indian..
My War was Vietnam and so I own a version or two of the weapons I carried there. It means alot to me to be able to do so now..My ARs and 1911 reminds me of those times in the jungle and on the PBRs and Air Assaults and incursions into Cambodia..and those brave men I had the honor of serving with and looked after..It reminds me of how much my freedom and those of my loved ones really cost and who bore the burden of that freedom..These are also the weapons I keep to defend my family and property with..They are the weapons I know best ..have depended upon in the past...and am not only comfortable with but fond of..

Why do I own an A-15 (post ban)?

Cause I can't legally own an M-16 and M-249 SAW in my state.

Why do I own a gun?

Cause 1) I like shooting, and 2) they are good for defense, and 3) liberals and the demorats don't like me having one.

Because I was trained on an M16 in the army and they told me it was the best rifle ever made.  I think they were right.

Because right out of the box it is just better than any other consumer rifle.  It's easy to take apart and clean.  Easy to understand.  Really easy on the shooter.  Accurate. Light. The ammo's cheap.  The parts are cheap and easy to come by.

It may not shoot 3 shot burst like my M16A2 on the army, but I like it just fine anyway.

I bought my first AR15 because my college roommate said it was legal for me to own one. (little did I know)Within a week, I had a money order sent out to a guy for a Post Ban Bushy, six months later I had pre-ban lower. Now two years later and with a very high learning curve, I have owned nearly a dozen AR's in various makes and models. (I now own two-a carbine and a rifle.)
I own my rifles for fun, defense, hunting, marksmanship, to impress chicks and by golly...BECAUSE I CAN!!!!!!!!!!

It's really kinda like that first hotrod you have as a young man and eventually wish you'd of kept. I started out 28 yrs ago in the USMC with a M-16 and just fininished my career in the US Army. So I went and picked up a AR-15 and a 1911. Because they feel so right in my hands.

I dont have an AR-15 right now, but soon. Here's the story.

About 35 years ago, at the age of 12, I shot my first rifle. A Marlin 30-30. Shooting from a kneeling position, it almost knocked me on my butt. Well, I was hooked.

I got a Mossberg .22. Loved it. Shot my first handgun at about 13-14 years old in Texas.

After high school I worked in a gun shop for a while. I bought a Colt AR-15 for $150. It came in used from a customer that wasn't allowed to shoot it at the range he had joined. Loved shooting it. Sold it a year later for $300. Hey, it sounded like a good idea at the time. And yes, it was a pre-ban!

After getting assorted shotguns, "deer rifles", target rifles, a Mini-14, and hunting for a few years, I took some time off from firearms. Yeah, mistake.

After some time, I started buying firearms magazines again. I could not believe what was happening politically in the "gun world".

I decided to buy the most politically incorrect rifle I could. As soon as I get back on my feet financially, I'm getting a Bushmaster Varminter.

Why do I want an AR-15 ... BECAUSE I CAN STILL BUY ONE!

Well aside from the fact that I love the rifle for its abilities, and pure sexiness....

...because in the end, when it comes to brass tax, freedom, regardless of any document, no matter how wonderful, can only be obtained and maintained with the barrel of a gun.

If I could afford one, I would own an AR because:

It has a 6000 meter range.
It shoots high velocity military ammunition.
It has superior firepower.
It is deadly accurate.

And most importantly,

IT IS AN EFFICIENT KILLING MACHINE
