I checked one out recently looking for a backup gun and that thing reminds me of their Sigma 380.

Its too damn thin/small for much of anything.

Is it aimed at little people or females?

I got it to replace my J frame for pocket carry. It fits my pocket, isn't too small for my hand, and is pleasant to shoot. Whats not to like?
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 11:51:09 AM EDT
Plus it's gotta safety? WTF? Too many buttons and switches........
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 11:52:12 AM EDT
Like every gun on the market.

It fits some folks needs and some it doesn't.

No one gun does it all.

Freedom of choice.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 11:53:33 AM EDT
It's a good pistol.

You can train high volume with a sub-compact single stack without it going down like a Kahr or Kel-tec.

8 rounds capacity

Very manageable recoil

Conceals well

Works

Despite Internet and gunshop professionals women and smaller statured people do better with larger guns than subcompact.

I am going to buy one this weekend. I already ordered a Crossbreed holster as soon as I decided I wanted one.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 12:04:53 PM EDT
Have you shot one? It shoots like a full size pistol,

I have a few Glocks, an M&P full size and a Shield. I was amazed at how well it shoots. I did better knocking steel plates down at 30 yards with my Shield than I did with my G19. Don't get me wrong, I love my Glocks and the 19 is my primary carry, but the Shields are very impressive in the accuracy department, especially for their size.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 12:05:33 PM EDT
too thin?

wut?

I'm a large-statured man and it works fine for me.  The pistol you take to a gunfight is not always the pistol you take to get a gallon of milk at the store.  It's light, thin, easy to shoot and chambered in a respectable caliber.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 12:31:36 PM EDT
Not to muddy the waters here, but I almost kinda see what the OP is talking about with the "thinness problem".
I ordered one a while back and I just felt like it didn't fit my personal needs.

It's too long in the grip for pocket carry (at least in my pants, but most of the room in the front of my pants is occupied, so.....

It didn't exactly seem like it was "too thin" but there was something about how it fit in my particular hand that seemed uncomfortable.
I attribute this to the specific geometry of the pistol more than the width.
I just wasn't comfortable for some reason, and I didn't personally shoot it worth a darn, though the other 2 people I went to the range with had no problems.
I went back to carrying a Ruger LCP, and if there was ever a gun that should be uncomfortable to hold and shoot, that one should do it, but I guess I'm just accustomed to it.
Weird.

I have this combo.  It is very good.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 12:42:40 PM EDT
Love the concealability, it's very accurate, and the ergos are familiar to me since I also shoot a full size M&P.

I'd love to be able to carry a G26 or a MP9c, but they just print too damn much on my body.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 12:47:48 PM EDT
It is a generic plastic blaster but it fits the bill for a lot of people. It carries easily, conceals well, is chambered for a decent round, and despite the aggravating safety, isn't a bad gun. It is not a duty pistol or a gun for people who are often in true high crime areas, but for most people the capacity it offers and a reload in a magazine is better than any revolver available pound for pound. It's a gun that makes sense.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 12:53:36 PM EDT
I got it because I have really big hands and it's fits well.

I agree.  I bought the Glock 26 instead.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 1:08:08 PM EDT
Because

1. I need something I can pocket carry
2. Lighter than an XDS
3. Nice grip
4. Surprisingly accurate for such a small size
5. $350 with free shipping from PSA

I average 300-500 rounds in my Kahr CW45 a range trip( my hands and wrists dont like me after). Only one failure since I bought it and it was operator error.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 1:11:57 PM EDT
I got the CM9 instead. I'd like to see how the Shield holds up now that its been out for a while.

This...
I can wear it under a T-shirt.

I like the size of it, nice little pocket gun.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 1:18:51 PM EDT
Too big as a pocket gun imo, the smaller CM9 is pushing it at that.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 1:25:49 PM EDT
Sometimes the hatred of the G26/27 is so mighty, it drives people to 'like' other guns, inferior though they be.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 1:31:47 PM EDT
Love mine for pocket or IWB carry. It's been 100% reliable and is 1911 thin!
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 2:30:14 PM EDT
The Shield basically owns a sub-category of carry pistols.

If you don't see the advantage of an easily concealable, single-stack 9mm, I can't help you .
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 2:34:31 PM EDT
Small, thin, great sights, very accurate, great grip, lack of recoil similar to much larger gun.
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 2:37:14 PM EDT
Trigger sucks.

Safety sucks.

GLOCK, Kahr, XD, etc.

For it's intended purpose it's a good gun
Link Posted: 4/12/2014 2:56:35 PM EDT
I bought mine because I wanted a single stack 9mm with a manual safety. It's now my favoritest carry gun ever.

This guy loves it because he isn't a worthless fat fuck that could conceal a fuckin Rem 870 in his belly rolls.

It feels like my FS, shoots like my FS, is reliable as fuck like my FS, is lighter and conceals better than my FS.

I have to appendix carry because Im skinny so it aims at my dick all day. Being skinny, I also like to do heavily active activities, so it can be unnerving. The no frills no bullshit manual safety is nice, too.

Warm out? Shield.
Cold out? FS

Glock doesn't make a gun in that segment, Kahr uses a DAO design that many don't like, the difference between the trigger in the Shield and the trigger in the XD-S is small enough that I wouldn't say one is better than the other.

Been carrying and shooting pistols a very long time. Have 3 very minor complaints about mine.

1. That silly little disassembly latch inside the pistol. It can be bypassed though.
2. The sleeve on the 8 round mag slides up.
3. The sharp edge on the rear sight digs into my gut during IWB carry.

That said, it is still my favorite small 9 or 40 and I'm a Glock fan.

Some suggestions for your consideration:
2. Adhesive
3. File or better holster.

Its better than a g26. Xds is better than both of them.

Under built, rails are not beefy enough, especially on the .40.

Thank you!  I haven't been carrying the Shield lately as I've fallen in love with my new Glock 30S. Probably will do as you suggested.
