...corectly differentiate between AR15s and M16s call ANY gun ever made that is even closely related to the AK47, an "AK47" instead of the semi auto guns actual model name? I'm not talking gun snob elitists that just hate AK pattern guns and don't know any better, I mean even AK fans. I don't own an AK47, but I do have a couple M92 PAPs, a Saiga IZ132, and an AES-10B. Anyway, yeah, why do people do that?

Same reason people like me can't tell the difference between xm-177s, gau-5's and all of whatever they are called.
It's how into it you are. |
And to go even further, everything everyone calls an AK-47 is actually an AKM.
A lot of AR-15 pattern rifles aren't actually called 'AR-15' by their manufacturer. Bushmaster = XM-15, PSA = PA-15, Spike's tactical = ST-15, etc

I don't give 2 shits about commie guns. Ak47s shoot 7.62x39. Ak74s shoot 5.45.
Don't like or want either. Txl |
Because saying "AKM" sounds stupid, and people often don't understand what I mean.
I do say "AK type" sometimes, though. |
You got your AR's and your AK's. Sure you can always get more exact, but it's often easier to generalize. Some people use different terms to generalize. Might call it an M4 or M16 or AR-15 or whatever. Might call it a AK or Kalashnikov or Krinkov or whatever.
People often use slang terms in conversations, and it doesn't mean they don't know the correct terms. I hate it when people try to get all high and mighty and try to correct others. It's like relax people geez... I blame the internet, never had all these snobs before really. Might have had one snob who read tons of books, but that was much rarer. Today anyone that can Google something on their phone thinks they are a genius... Kind of like the grammar Nazi's. Before you had to be a spelling bee champion to be correcting everyone. Now you got auto correct on your phone and they are like I'm better than everyone!! It's like no retard you're an idiot trying to feel good about yourself. Then the PC guy comes in and tells me I can't call someone a retard, they are mentally challenged... Ugh... Today's society... |

Because there are many types of shit but no one cares enough to learn about it unless it's your fetish.

I don't really know shit about AK's, besides how to use one, so I refer to them all as "ak platform".
I also refer to our beloved black rifle (in generic terms) as a m16, m4, or ar15, interchangeably, unless pointing out specific differences like barrel length or accessories. Being in the corps, and still having both the 16 and 4, it doesn't matter much what you call it unless the topic is specific to one of the rifles. |
I just say stamped or milled AK for the 7.62X39s.
If it's a AK-74 type I just say AK-74. VEPR/Saiga are described by name no matter the configuration. If any of the above descriptions need a further fleshing-out during a discussion I can do that too. |
OP, we have to fix the calling of magazines "clips" before we can tackle the AK name problem.
I say AK variant, but normal non gun people don't understand the difference.

I just call them AR's and AK's. View Quote Same here. I don't know the difference between all the AK variants. Not everyone can tell the difference on sight. I have a couple of AKs, but I'm not really 'into' that platform enough to know all the various models. Other guns I'm very knowledgeable about. Depends on what interests you enough to study them more. I know enough to shoot and take care of my AKs, but I'm not really interested in learning about all the other variants out there. Unless I find a different one that I'm interested in; then I'll do some research and learn about it. But so far that hasn't happened yet. |

AR pattern gun = AR
AK pattern gun = AK FAL pattern gun = FAL Glock pattern gun = Glock 1911 pattern gun = 1911 How fucking annoying would it be if everyone had to call it a "Spikes ST-15" instead of a spikes AR. |

It is just common vernacular. yes I could differentiate between all of the models but no one would have a clue what I was talking about. |

I just call them all assault rifles. Even the short ones with Shockwave stocks.
Differentiating between M16s and AR15s would be silly because M16s are AR15s. Many of them even have AR15 included in their roll mark.
I call it a AK47, a AK. don't like it? fuck off, I can call it any damn thing I please
Because they're all gross monkey guns built for simple conscripts.
Because when I tell some non-gun person that I have an SAR-1 they hear AR. So I call it an AK

Since this is the country of origin for the automatic m-16, and the military here uses the m-16/m-4, the civilian semiauto ar-15 is a different gun with both guns being possible to own. On the AK side, about the only version you are going to find in the USA is the semiauto version, so the distinction is not all that important. |

Because
samuel jackson ak47 kill every motherfucker in the room |

A guy: "Hey, you have a couple of AK-47s, don't you, Loki?"
Me: "No, what I actually have is a Saiga Converted Sporter Rifle in 7.62x39 and a Romanian WASR 7.62x39 Sporter Rifle." A guy: "Whatever, weirdo." That's why. They're just AKs. A Russian one and a Romanian one. |
