to bring America together, and for us to show a little bit of Patriotism.

I just heard the Pledge of Allegiance for the first time in years on the radio.  Albeit, they dropped "Under God" from it which to me made it a total hack job of it.  But it was good to hear it again.

Anyway, most of us on this board love our country more than anything.  I would just like to know why 80% of other Americans didn't even think of Patriotic behavior until thousands of people were killed?

I would have to think that those willing to read the constitution, and do the research to know what it says and means, and then have the guts to act on it are the true Americans.

What I am trying to get at here, is there will be many people who are going to call for freedom to be sacrificed.  They will ask for willingly in hopes the Gov't can protect their hinies from terrorism.   If we let this happen the terrorists have won, and we will fall into the socialist trap of Britain and Australia.  We will lose all our freedom, the Gov't still won't be able to protect everybody, and those whiny little liberals will be wondering why.

I will get off my soapbox now.  Some people just make me sick.  [soapbox]

sorry to gripe so much

Cause people are blind. It's takes a bucket of cold water to wake them up. Sorry that it took  such a large bucket of it though.[:(]

Hey, I like frappacinos.

Just kidding.

People tend to have differences, it comes from having a free will and personal priorities. You will therefore always have conflict. Conflict causes seperation and strains a society. With this you get a lack of interest in promoting and celebrating common things like citizenship. When a major catastrophy occurs against a certain group, then that group will usually come back together and unify. That's what we are seeing now.

Unfortunately, under normal times, in the lack of a greater enemy,,, we will fight with each other.

I am not saying that what has happened recently was good nor am I happy about any facet of it. But,,, it is interesting to note that something like this can help us to see how trivial many of the things we were worried and bickering about last week are not worthwhile any more.

Republics(which is what the US started out as)
turn into democracies as things get easier and safer for the population in general.

And don't forget there's a plethora of sheeple who want to do what's "in", even if it meant French-kissing ducks. And I'm sure there are some who fear being called unpatriotic if they don't fly a flag in front of the house.

Just a month ago some schools were talking about banning the Pledge of Allegiance because it was divisive. What are these people saying today?

matt, mom just told me that the ORIGINAL version of the Pledge of Allegiance did NOT have the "under God" phrase.  apparently that was added after the attack at Pearl Harbor or someother time around WW2.

i think i'm gonna go look up so info and see if she's got it right.  probably is.  after all, she is a mom!

apparently, she was right!  (big surprise).  and the "under God" phrase was added in 1954.  the link is to a whole host of interesting stuff.  but you can find the information about the Pledge of Allegiance by clicking the link for it from this page.  happy reading!

They need to drop the "god" in the song, and take it off the bills again, as we have no government religion. The National Cathedral is absurd too.
