My son's GF is a truther.
Disgusting.

I don't speak of it around her.

In summation:

Never argue with idiots, as they will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I would argue that it is worth it, because we typically ban at least on of those idiots in every thread.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Because Obama

That, plus the added fact that occasionally, just once in a while, mind you, it is fun to slap a retarded child, even if he doesn't know he's been slapped.

Here is a news story from just a few years ago.  It tells of a gas tanker melting an overpass in Cali.  Overpasses are made of concrete and steel.  Your argument that the fire could not have caused, or contributed to, the collapse of the towers may just be invalid.

ETA: I am not a truther, or major conspiracy theorist.  But I don't trust what they have told us 100%  Does the fact that I believe the govt is not telling the truth about Benghazi?  You can bet that I do.  Do I believe the govt is not being honest about the NSA spying?  You can be that I do.  Do I believe in crop circles?  You can bet that I do (I believe that they are real and made by real people).  Does that make me a nut?

Some might argue that's what makes it fun!

I was standing in the subway this morning after attending one of our memorial services.

Some doofus walks up to me and asks what my thoughts were on the truther movement that was "sweeping" the nation.

I kinda chuckled and called him an idiot.

We are all just aliens in human bodies. We are trying to go home, but the government won't let us.

They are keeping our terrestrial transports at Area 51 and they are continuing to hold us hostage here.

Well you have to admit, it makes such perfect sense.  Obviously the same administration that is ruthless and capable enough to pull off the the 9/11 hoax isn't sharp enough to plant some chemical weapons in Iraq a few years later....

Look at the OKC Bombing. There was a John Doe II that has never been caught. The security videos that showed two men in the truck were lost by the FBI.
There was an ATF informer that told them something was going to happen to the Murrah Builiding weeks before the bomb went off. They had planted her at Elohim City where Tim McVeigh spent some time.
The government and news media will lie to the public by deliberate omission and intentional misinformation.
That is a fact sheeple will not accept.

It's been a little while since we've had a major event that brought out these people, but today seems like an appropriate time for me to revisit this important issue. When someone posts something about 9/11 being an "inside job" or some similar nonsense, our first instinct is to jump in and argue with them, pointing out their obvious flaws. You will not make a breakthrough though, and you might as well be tilling at windmills.

To sum up why: They have already made up their mind and no amount of logical, scientific proof will sway them. They'll goad you along by claiming that they're simply looking for "the truth", but don't be fooled - they're not.

An argument with them always unfolds in a similar manner, using the 9/11 attacks as an example:
  • They will claim that they have studied the issue and have questions which haven't been answered. They'll undoubtedly bring up the collapse of WTC7, that the towers fell from fire (which is impossible since they're made of steel), etc. etc.
  • You will, of course, try to clarify for them that these explanations exist.
  • They will counter with some other nonsense.
  • You counter with more scientific evidence.
  • The pattern here is that they never say exactly what THEY KNOW. They keep it open-ended by saying "you can't explain this" or "there's no way that it could have happened that way" leading to a circular argument that goes on for ages.
  • Just when you finally think you have them cornered...
  • ... you realize that they've lead you away several miles from where the argument started.
  • Either that, or they slip the trap you had set for them and change topics.
What it comes down to is that you're wasting your time. Every argument with a troofer has followed the same pattern as I've outlined above. Notice that they hardly ever go out and state what they actually believe happened. If you try to pin them down by asking them, they'll weasel away. It's like trying to catch a greased pig.

Save yourself the aggravation and don't feed their BS.

there's no point in trying to have a rational discussion over matters of faith. it's un-possible. especially with juveniles like truthers.
Link Posted: 9/12/2013 7:35:48 AM EDT
Zhukov, the problem with your argument is sometimes they are right and sometimes you are right.

Governments and powerful men will act together to further their own self interest.  When they get caught they will lie to protect themselves.

To think the government and media tell the truth ALL the time is puerile in the extreme.

To think every major event that can't be fully explained is a conspiracy is equally childish.

Bottom line is there is no 100% absolute in this matter, to automatically approach either side of the argument with a pre-determined conclusion (before fully studying the facts) demonstrates an enormous lack of intelligence.
