Wondering why Muslim terrorists are so quick to commit suicide? No Jesus, no television, no cheerleaders, no car races, no football, no soccer, no burgers, no chocolate chip cookies, no nachos, no beer nuts, no alcoholic beverages! Rags for clothes and towels for hats. Constant wailing from the guy next-door because he's sick and there are no doctors. Constant wailing from the guy in the tower. On your knees facing east most of the day. More than one wife. You can't shave. Your wives can't shave. You can't shower to wash off the smell of donkey cooked over burning camel dung. Your bride is picked by someone else. She smells just like your donkey. Then they tell you that when you die it all gets so much better!

I was listening to NPR and Terry Gross was interviewing the author of The Looming Tower, Lawrence Wright.  He wrote the script of the movie 'The Siege', which perversely was taken by Muslims as an ANTI-Muslim movie.



Anyway, after 9/11, Wright went to the middle east and pakistan to interview al-Qaeda about their war against the USA and to write a book about the events that led up to 9/11.  One of the things he discovered was that the men that al-Qaeda roped into performing suicide attacks seemed to be clinically depressed before al-Qaeda got their hands on them.  Explains a lot.

While this clip doesn't address terrorists and their suicidal tendencies directly, I believe the same reasons expressed herein also apply to them:

I'm willing to die for my beliefs.

Most people of conviction are.

It isn't really that hard to fathom.

I think the gender segregation is a big one.

The life of the extremist is shit. It's been carefully manipulated by the clergy. He is convinced that we made his life shit, and that the only way to make it better is to die, or to kill all of us. He BELIEVES this. It's the only thing that makes sense to him. By the time he does his attack, he is incapable of understanding anything else.
