Why are folks so offended by the word "Fuck". Today at work I simple said "what the fuck" and a coworker told me to watch my mouth. Whats the deal? I can understand people taking offense to things like "Fuck you" or "Go fuck yourself" since those are insults, but whats wrong with something like "What the fuck?" or "Thats fucking awesome"?. Its just a word. People who get easily offended fucking suck.

Well, an English major could probably explain better than I, however, the reason I get annoyed at profane language is the misuse of explecitives.

Cursing has a place in our spoken language. To provide emphasis on what you are saying.

Example:

Watch out for the car.

Watch out for the FUCKING car!!!

This pie is tasty.

This pie is some tasty SHIT.

Mr. XYZ is not a nice person.

Mr. XYZ is a FUCKING ASSHOLE.

My $0.02.

When I was a kid if an adult male had used the F word in public around a woman the result would have most likely been an ass whipping. This would not have been tolerated in mixed company.

It is rude and vulgar behavior. Just because you have a potty mouth doesn’t mean it always needs to be running there is a time for vulgarity and a time to STFU.

Depends on who's around for me. Almost got inot a fight with two guys at a college football game because of their continued use of the word. Standing line to use the restroom with a bunch of kids around including mine. I asked them nicely not use the word since there were kids standing within 3 feet of their shouts. They then turned to me and started cussing me out. About this time a couple of cops pounced on them. They got to listen to the rest of the ballgame on the radio. While they were being escorted out. Everyone started clapping in approval.

And yes I do use the word. To often.

Expletives are used by people who don't have the vocabulary to properly express themselves.

Hey Hun,

But is it OK to use the "C" word? Cracker that is.

Few words can convey emotion as exquisitely as fuck and its variants. Despite the tendency for some to try to wrap the world in bubble wrap and make it safe and serene, it’s a hostile environment. If they can't take a little foul language, they truly are fucked.

It's best not to have a trashmouth in public. People will conclude that one is uneducated and a dirtbag. They will treat the offender in a different way than they would anyone else. This would mean the offender becomes an outcast, excluded from the activities of the community. I notice that I only hear young folks talking with a trashmouth. This is indeed refreshing since I'm a gun-toting biker, and I rarely hear that kind of foul-mouthed cr*p.

It's a fucking bad word...you dumb fuck. Why the fuck do you even have to ask a stupid fucking question like that?

Seriously though, it's not a very proper word to use around people you don't know very well. I feel a little odd when people who I don't know use bad words around me. It's a bad word. There's nothing else to it.

I used to work in an Auto Parts store and I once told an unruly customer who refused to leave the store and I resorted to saying: "YOU NEED TO GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY STORE, NOW!" he still refused, and I said fine I'll just call the cops. He scampered out right when I said that and never came back.

And no, I no longer work there because I was fired. I quit a few months later. Got tired of dealing with assholes.

When I was much younger and working at my first full time job , I witnessed an epiphany of the word Fuck . It was used during an argument between two coworkers .

And I Quote :

" Fuck You , you fucking fuck . You fuck you "

It lives in my memory with fondness

I don't care about profanity at the fire house or in similar environents. I resented having my kids exposed to it in public venues when they were younger though.

If you've reached adulthood without understanding why you don't use profanity in polite company, then explanations would be useless.

what kinda answer is that? Thats like when I argued with my ex about guns and when I asked how guns are evil, she replied "They just are, you don't get it"
