Why are Wal-Marts laid out differently?  We went to a different one yesterday and they layout was very different.  I understand that there are limitations based on building size.  Is it to force people to "explore" and hopefully make impulse purchases?  Is it because Wal-Mart hates us?

Scored 4 boxes of Federal 550 and 2 boxes of AutoMatch.

Different customer demographics.  Some areas want more hunting, some want more clothes, some want more food.  Individual store managers have some control over what they carry and what they think will be profitable.

Not only are there a few different floor plans for Wally World, you can see different pricing on the same items in certain cities that have two Wally Worlds. (Hemet CA is one example).

This.  Yes, they vary in size & stocking from place to place, but they also move stuff around on a regular basis to keep you guessing....

they test different designs.  a lot of the walmart layout came from studying vagas casinos.  the design encourages you to pass by as much stuff as possible, disorient, and "trap"

Most of the things women want are near the front, they will walk through the store anyone. Anything kids and men want are in the back of the store, so you have to walk past everything else first. Toys, electronics, sporting goods, automotive, etc.

But they will move these things around inside different stores.

This is more than a shelf space issue, it's a location issue.

For example, my regular Wal-Mart has the produce and frozen foods at opposite ends of the store.  In the Wal-Mart of Mystery from last night, the two were adjacent.
