This afternoon I strolled into the local Dick's Sporting Goods to purchase some Hoppe's #9 and a rifle soft case. After I am finished paying for the crap, the biotch behind the counter "axes" me "what ch'all need dat shit fo' anyway?". Dammit, it's not like I bought a rifle, a scope, 500 rounds of ammo, a ghillie suit, lipstick, vodka, and maps to celebrities homes.

Maybe she was trying to pick you up.
Link Posted: 10/15/2001 2:03:33 PM EDT
Sounds like she was giving you an Ebonics lesson.
Link Posted: 10/15/2001 2:05:41 PM EDT
mayeb she was genuinely curious about guns and figured you were more knowledgeable then the rest of the staff. from my expereinces at dick's, this is highly possible.

Tell her to give you her # and she will get to find out, and look at her nametag and call her by name, staring at her face like you're photocopying it. Don't actually do this unless you want to meet the cops in an up close and personal way. Tell her that all this shite is for when the Afghanies raid our town, and then see what she says. Ice

LOL! Before I realized that Wal-Mart is forcing economic socialism on the American people, I used to buy MAJOR BULK ammo there. Like 10 boxes of White Box 9MM, 10 Boxes of UMC .223, cases of shotshells, bulk paks of rimfire.... all at one time. Usually once a month. A half-a-cart full. I got some interesting looks, but the best had to be some weird-o cashier with a pierced nose that goes to my school saying "I hate guns" under her breath as she rung up my ammo. I just looked at her, and said in my best boogie-man voice with a crazy assed grin on my face... "Don't go to class on Tuesday" She got reeeeeeeeal nervous, and rang my shit up pretty quickly. I've seen her on campus, and she always avoids me [:D] Fuck 'em. What should I have done. Quoted her the founding fathers? Not like it would have worked. I figure were the ones with the guns. They aren't. If they want to take 'em away, i'll be sure to remind them they had better be afraid of the people they are fucking with. And BTW- I don't need to be preached to about the potential conciquences of my actions, or "winning over" the opposition. Some of these people can't be won over, and she was one of them. Those people, I prefer to scare with my guns, rather than justify why I own them.

I had a similar thing happen to me at Wal-mart. I bought 5 boxes of .223, a couple of boxes of .45, 4 boxes of 00 buckshot, 2 boxes of 12 gauge slugs, and 3 boxes of 9mm, for a day of plinking. The guy behind the counter (19? maybe) asked what I was going to shoot with "all that ammo". I was tempted to tell him I have had a lot of problems with illeagle aliens, but just told him, hopefully everything at which I aim. He did get a strange look on his face, but didn't say anything else.

My story isn't as good as yours but similar. I tried to buy ammo at wally-mart. I told the lady at the ammo counter i wanted some UMC 223 FMJ. Granted that is a redundant statement but i figured that would help her understand what i wanted. She just stares blankly at me. I nicely told her the stuff in the yellow box and after some looking she found it. Then she asks how many i want. I reply "25 boxes". Blank stare again followed by 'we only have 3'. "What?" i say, "thats it?, ok three then." Maybe i came in just after you left, but i was shocked. That was my last time buying, or attempting to buy, ammo at a major store like that.

Actually, the only thing that makes me suspicious is the liptick. Just what would be your intentions with that? Pot shots in drag?

Actually the folks in the "lodge" or the gun department seem okay, but the clerk doing her nails at the register was more condescending than inquisitive.

Last summer I went to the local wally-mart here in VA to grab some .40 UMC for a pin shoot the following AM. It was after 10pm, the dipstick in sporting goods tells me that they can't sell handgun ammo after 10pm. Open 24 hours but whats for sale changes by the hour? Buncha blue vest wearin' libs...I'll go elsewhere, thanks.

One time I went into Border's to pick up the new "American handgunner" and when the chick up front rang me up she handed me the bag she said, "And please dont kill anyone today" I didnt say anything but I did write to corporate office. They apologized and gave me a 10 dollar gift certificate.

He told me as long as he could remember, and that he was teaching his kid how to help him out while she was still young. Anyway, we get up to the register, and the lady rings up my SGN, sees those boxes for the guy behind me, and pipes up with, "I don't know why you people insist on buying this stuff here." I glanced back at the guy behind me, and all we could do was laugh at the cashier. She was kind of taken aback, and just muttered under her breath at us. Who really cares about these brain-dead idiots anyway? -Gloftoe

Tell that POS to find a job where they don't sell weapons, ammo and periodicals of mass destruction.

I went to the local supermarket to buy the month's supply of gun magazines, 5 or 6. The girl rang them up then looked at me and asked if she should be afraid of me. I told her no and if she were in trouble, she might glad to have me around. I was carrying a Glock 27 and S&W 640 at the time.

You should have then looked at your watch and said "shit, it is (x-number of) hours until it is offically tomorrow. I can't wait that damn long."[%|] I remember buying a few boxes of .223 at Dicks one time and telling guy this will keep me busy with groundhogs for a few weeks. 'Weeks?', he said, 'hell i can dump that in under a minute'.[uzi] I guess there are some good ones. I also remember picking out a spyderco in the hunting lodge (showing my id and all that crap) and taking it up (in the box) to check-out and the girl asked me if SHE needed to ask me for id. I nicely told her they already did that before they gave me the knife. Nothing better then telling someone how to do there job and them being thankful for the tip.

I think the people who work at these places are cloned under disney land in california as part of a secret PRK project to spread stupidity across the union. I could beat them all, but I would need some tin foil and an avicado [%|]

You're a better man than I. I would have sued the pants off of them for that, and I'm not a litigous person. Then I'd have given a sizable donation to GOA if I won. God Bless Texas

I have no problems buying Shotgun News, Gun List, American Handgunner, Combat Handguns or any other gun related magazine at my local Bookstop (Barnes and Noble bought them). I do generally expect it though, but I've never gotten anything but a very polite "Thanks for shopping here and have a nice night!" It could be because I engage in small talk with them about reading subjects and that seems to losen them up. However, the Bookstop off Alabama and Shepherd in River Oaks doesn't have any gun magazines, but it's also ultra-yuppie. God Bless Texas

I buy my .22 at Wal-Mart and the sports department clerk always asks, "Are these for a pistol?" And I always reply, "No, they are .22 Long Rifle ammo." And she always responds, "Sorry, I have to ask." I smile and tell her I understand.

I remember when I was younger, under 18. I had a neighbor that was the manager of the sporting goods at Wal Mart. He always told the employees to sell me anything I wanted. It was the only store I went to for ammo until I turned 18. I loved it.
