I have been looking for one of these for a few years but this is way too much $$$. I own a Yugo M48 Mauser and would love to have a M76 to go along with it, as I have a lot of Yugo 8mm ammo to shoot up.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 10:48:17 PM EDT
Thanks but no thanks....like I need another caliber to stockpile.

Got to handle one at the store. Very fun rifle. Would like to have shot it. Go for it.

If you're gonna spend $2k on a rifle, get a good one.

Our Price: $ 2099.95

HA!!!

I don't fucking think so. I've shot one, it's nothing to get my dick hard about. $2100 will buy a hell of a sniping platform, and the M76 is not it.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 11:55:40 PM EDT
If I were to spend 2K on an AK based "sniper" platform it would be a tiger also! But to each his own I am sure you will love it.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 11:56:58 PM EDT
8x57mm is that correct?

I'd buy it if i could buy some ammo that is somewhat accurate through it. My Romak's have not impressed me in the least

2k for that!

For some reason, AK, Sniper and 8mm just do not belong in the same description.

It's an interesting rifle, but hardly seems worth the tooling to make a receiver for that considering the end cost.

I recall seeing some M76 rifles imported by Mitchell Arms in the 1980's. I don't recall them having prices quite that insane however.

BTW, I agree with the others. If I want a "sniper rifle", I'll just pick up a Remington 700 VS or PSS, a good Leupold scope, Harris bipod, case and ammo...and have money left over and a helluva better rifle.

Already have several.

I like the 8mm cartridge, but not that rifle.
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 10:02:51 AM EDT
I think that rifle was 1699 a couple weeks ago on there site. As usual I could be wrong.
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 10:03:29 AM EDT
$200 is the most I'd spend for a bastardized AK.

$300 for a real one.

Link Posted: 8/17/2005 10:04:05 AM EDT
The problem with that gun is in the first sentence..."this AK SNIPER RIFLE....."

yes i have read it....... have you found any of that ammunition located in the USA??? We I am stuck shooting wolf 148 grain FMJ through my romak's because i don't reload.... yet. unless you know of a place to get some different ammo. I have czech, wolf, and hungarian. ball. what else would you recomend in the 148 grain range?? that i am not aware of

I too have found 8mm to be more accurate than the 7.62x54 that is readily available.

Which is why I am interested in this rifle. And I'm not getting it as a sniper rifle, even Drags kinda suck in that capacity when compared to real sniper rifles.

I'm getting it to have a well made interesting variant.

I thought the 8mm was supposed to be a very flat shooting round myself and it packs a helluva punch. About on par with the 06.

I'd pass.

So you pick your rifles based on what Vogue says is in style this year? Not suprising.

Well, it's the first "sniper's rifle" I've ever seen with a Bowie knife on it. Interesting concept.

Sorry, I sold my Romak before I got around to shooting it. My guess is that you need to shoot hand loads. My NDM is chambered in .308, so I have a choice of hand loads or expensive match ammo.

Cool, another design ORF won't be able to follow through on.

I wouldn't call it a design.

The term "bargain basement spare parts bin rifle" seems more fitting.

7.92x57

Clever solution to a non existent problem.

Remington 700 PSS .308, with Leupold 1.5 X 9 Mildot scope, Harris bi-pod, sling, hard case, rem oil, 2 removable magazines. (Think it is called a TLE package) $1,500.00

Why buy a 8mm or an AK for a sniper rifle when you can have that.
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 7:56:49 PM EDT
I'd get a PSL or ROMAK...you could get a lot better gun for 2100$.
Link Posted: 8/17/2005 7:57:36 PM EDT
I thought it used to be cheaper, like in the $1700 range.

Resembles a Romak3 except in 8mm.

I guess I should read all the responses before I post.

Scrounge around the AK boards and see if you can find one of these for sale in either 7.62 x 54R or 7.62 x 51.

I like mine.

BTW, the Bowie knife is used to add mass to the system to change the barrel dynamics for long (>1000 m) shots.

For 7.62x51 I can think of a LOT better platforms and generally what is available in 7.62x54R is shit compared to what you can get in 8mm.

That and the whole Drugy butthole stock just doesn't do it for me. I've shot a lot of them, occassionally considered buying them at times and then decided it just wasn't worth it.

This is the first accurized AK platform I've seen that interests me.

Or I guess you could hang your wet combat boots off the end to let them dry and add ballast.

Silly, wet combat boots are too heavy. Plus, your tootsies would get either too hot or too cold. Not to mention the fact that combat boots are hardly an intmidating accessory for a rifle.

After having an M48, I fell in love with that round. Now, with that round in semi-auto I can only imagine the possibilities.
