Jason, from Friday the 13th,

To me he is the ultimate hunter, watch him as he stalks his prey, he leads them right into his trap, they get all screwed up running around and then BAM right into his trap where they meet an ugly demise...

Watch him as he calmly stalks his prey through out the hunt, stalking his prey ever so carefully.....

Robert de Niro in Cape Fear...  Ugly-looking mother in that movie, plus a nasty edge to him in that movie...

Another guy, although not as famous, but made a hell of a good performance as a bad guy (he's always out token good guy) was Denzel Washington in Training Day...  slick bad guy performance.

I wouldn't rate these guys as my "favorites", but that being said, I think they couldn't have picked a better pair to play the North Hollywood bank robbers in the FX movie "44 Minutes".

Christopher Walken in "The Prophecy" was awsome. I agree about Robert DeNiro in cape fear as well as "This Boys Life". He was so good in this movie playing a mental and physically abusive father.

Agent Smith in the Matrix was a pretty cool bad guy too

Harvey Kietel (sp?) as 'The Cleaner' in Point of No Return.

He sort of reprised the role when he played Winston Wolfe in Pulp Fiction

Either way, he played a cool-headed operator sent to un-fvck other operators' situations that had gone wrong.

You guys otta watch Robert Mitchum in the original "Cape Fear".IMO a better movie. Both are pretty creepy.

I kinda like that head DEA asshole in "The Proffessional".

Gary Oldham?

He played a real twisted, ruthless SOB in that one.

I always liked Lee Van Cleef in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Hell, he was so bad, they called him "the Bad".

I really liked Mel Gibson's character "Porter" in Payback. He was the bad guy right?

Yeah 455SD,I liked that movie too and Gibson was cool.

Harvey Keitel was also a bitchin' anti-hero in Bad Lieutenant.

Byron2112, the name of the guy in the Professional is Gary Oldman. He also played Zorg in 5th Element.

Christopher Walken played a parapelegic mob boss in Things to do in Denver When You're Dead, which featured Andy Garcia and Christopher Lloyd (Back to The Future, My Favorite Martian (the 90's movie re-make) in two great performances.

What about the two guys in the pawn shop in Pulp Fiction?

Break out the Gimp...

Gary Oldman in Leon The Professional and Hannibal Lecter.

I'll have to second Possible_Spam on this one.  His character really creaped me out.  He played it w/ a certain cold heartedness that made the character almost too believable.

Agent Smith.

I don`t know if you have heard of the show called "Lexx" that used to be on the Sci-Fi Channel, but the character named Prince also made an excellent bad guy.

God DAMN!!!  Treetop...I took me years to forget that creepy face!!!!!!

My favorite bad guy:  General Jack D. Ripper from Dr. Strangelove.  I, of course, was on Jack's side.

Hey, how 'bout the big ol' fat man himself:

Col. Walter E. Kurtz from Apocalypse Now.

I beleive this would make four votes for Darth Vader.

When I saw the first Star Wars at the movie theater in 1977 (I'm dating myself), I leaned over to my girl friend and said "this guy is GREAT, he's the best bad guy of all time."

"Ob Wan when first we meet I was the student and you were the master, now I am the master."

Some very good responses so far. Here is my unfinished list:

Hannibal Lecter
Darth Vader
The Terminator

Every one of them gave me the willies when I first saw them in their respective movies.

When I first read the premise of the thread, Gary Oldman from The Professional came right to mind.  Talk about a twisted individual.  I just didn't figure that 3 other people out of 2 pages of replies would have thought of him.  Count this as the 4th vote for him...
