I'm debating whether to drive to 2 hours dad's house this afternoon for a more-or-less guaranteed shot at a doe (the in-laws want a whole deer for their freezer) or to drive 30 minutes to public land.

The other alternative is to drive 10 minutes and go squirrel hunting one last time (before we move) on some public land I've really enjoyed hunting on.

That's a tuff one, Squirrel dose sound good, but getting the inlaws a deer is good for browine points and such.

So many social engagements so little time

Sharp gun. I've wanted a 6.5 Grendel for a long time.  Now that I'm reloading, I might have to make that a reality.

Yea, it's the one that all the Mexican cartels use

Which part of MS are you in?

I'm moving to the north-central part soon and need some pointers on a few things, including how to go about finding either a small deer lease or a hunting club.

Thanks, you should build one. It can't replace the 223 in everything, but for hunting and long distance shooting you can't beat it. A good friend of mine on here was with me when I sighted it in and imediatly decided to get one after he saw how well it shot

The Delta, around Greenwood. The hunting around here is great, most of the leases are for duck hunting mainly. Alot of the farmers around here least out their land to hunters

What is it with all you late season hunters? My hunting was finished up a month ago, and my EBR put back in the safe until next year.

It looks lile it may be a little warmer where you're at. Here, we have snow on the ground, temps in the teens, and everything has a clear coating of ice on it. Good luck!

in MS, we have really weird deer seasons.  gun season opened a while back, then they had a two week off period for 'primitive weapon', and then gun season opened back up on the 16th of dec.

Here in the south long hunting seasons almost enslave us.

The older I get, the less interested i am in hunting every day for three or four months.

I may go look for squirrels this afternoon, just to get out of the house.
