I flew to Ireland (from WA state) last week, as I'm working here for the next 5 weeks.  Of course they don't celebrate our labor day over here so I'm working today.  I will however get even when I fly to Italy for a 3 (maybe 4 who's counting) day holiday later this month.  Due to that I don't mind much.  I am however going to miss out on converting my toys on the 14th.  That part does suck, but oh well I am getting to expense everything for the next 5 weeks!

I am working a double shift today. Spreading the pain amongst the staff so everyone can get at least part of the weekend off and the younger guys don't get forced in for double shifts every day and totally miss out on the holiday.

Someone's gotta make the electricity... even if mine's still not back on after the storm!!  Thank God for portable generators.  I've got about 2 more days worth of gas on hand and the gas stations are finally getting deliveries.

Present and accounted for! Need to finish up as much as I can before leaving for an extended business trip; should be able to finish one story today. (I'm a freelance writer/photographer so I am the servant of many.)

DING DING DING! We have a winnah!

Took my in-laws some time to get used to the "no such thing as holidays and weekend" nature of a 24/48 shift.

Luckily, if we work a holiday (or are on any leave other than sick) we get a "H-day" (holiday) "credit" that we can use for time off later.

I work later today.  Call center industry, 24/7/365.

My employer doesn't consider Labor Day important enough to pay more than base pay

Our current contract doesn't either

Our current contract is moving all business to India next month, there goes my job

My work schedule runs for four month periods no matter what holiday/event falls in that time period I'm either off on my weekend or working. I have the opportunity to bid around holidays or events that I want to make it to before the four month period begins.

So I'll be working tonight for double time and a half. I can handle that
