Seems to me that because they could technically call holding on every snap, 10 yards seems a bit excessive.

What say ARFCOM

A lot of people. A 10 yard penalty is a big deal and can be a drive killer. Especially if the penalty negates a first down, huge gain, or touchdown.

Harder for the refs to control the outcome of the game as per the wishes of the controlling interests with only a 5-yard penalty.

More so I don't think defensive holding should be an automatic first down

It should be 10 yards from the spot of the foul...Like it used to be in college.

I also dont think that unequal penalties should negate each other. if one team gets a 5 yard penalty, and the other gets a 10 yard penalty, move the ball 5 yards in the appropriate direction.

I think they should execute the offending player at the 50 yard line.

That will teach them not to hold.

They should just start ejecting players who makes fouls.  You make a foul, you are out.

No more yard penalties.

Seems fair.

This.

Each time a kids sports game is on, go to the gym. You may actually get in shape.

Also, they have rules against holding in soccer?

They should get rid of the block in the back penalty.  My non scientific study of kick returns shows an 87% BIB penalty rate.

Good point.  I remember saying that when I was a kid. Should just be the 5 yards.

I guess it depends whether you like offense or defense. I'll take pie.

For offensive holding the ref should pop the ball with a switchblade and make the coach of the offending team eat it.

That'll teach those fuckers.

They should allow one player to use a spear.

I'm good with 10 yds....actually make it 15 yds. as long as they keep that personal foul roughing the passer nonsense....looks like I'm for DEFENSE!

I think the NFL should be penalized when games exceed 15 minutes wasted on discussing and reviewing various penalties in a game. We can start with castration and then move up to severe punishments.

Fuck pro sports. Bunch of overpaid complainers. I will never spend a cent to support a pro sport or watch it on television.
