Knock 'im out Joooohhhhnnnnnnn!
I love Jerry Clower! The banana story, the rat stomp, Ol' Brummy eating boiled okra and starting a dogfight. They are as country as it gets. |
|
I grew up listening to him all the time. My parents loved him. I still find his stuff funny. Very patriotic and a veteran.
God rest his soul. He was a gentleman. |

Goldarn, there's some stuff here I ain't thought about in near forty years.
It's still funny though! |

My Grandfather and I would listen to him for hours and laugh like it was our first time hearing it.

Ol' Marcell Ledbetter and his lightweight McCullough chainsaw!
The hot steel balls story is damned funny as well... I got to meet Jerry Clower many years ago when I was a kid at the Missouri State Fair...very funny & polite is how I remember him. |

the lying coon dog story almost cost me my life on a bad stretch of road while drinking coffee.

Look for "the rattlesnake roundup", and my absolute favorite is about when he played football at mississippi state & a fellow player's father comes to visit I think titled "Who would you want blocking for you?"

Y'all can also listen up to Brother Dave Gardner if you want some southern comedy.

I grew up listening to his stories, and still love to hear them today.

Saw him live several times at farm shows in NC. A few years before he passed away I was walking around at an event (tractor show) put on by a small local volunteer fire department and Ruritan Club for fundraising. Turned around and there was Jerry in his red rhinestone suit walking around and looking at the exhibits. Just as nice a person as you would ever want to meet. He ended up doing an off the cuff show for the event to help with the fundraising. My uncle was in the Ruritan Club at the time. They had no idea he was coming and even though offered, he refused any money from them. Just a kind (FUNNY) southern gentleman. |

One of the first I heard was the chiffa robe story ( sorry about the spelling) but perhaps the funniest was marcel and his dual chainsaws and the bar. One of the nicer things about his material was that you could KNOW without a doubt that it was totally safe for all ages. His humor was real life and without vulgarity.
That reminds me. I need to see about picking up some of his recordings on cd if I can find them. |
