OK, I'm at my wit's end.

"On the Bayou"

Andrew Crenshaw?

Ander Krenshaw?

WHO?

I'm looking for the best version ever sung, and I swear the guys name sounded like the one above. If I could see the album cover I'd know it, as it's simply him, in sepia.

Thanks.

Nope. He seems to have been a footbal player.

The album in question was released prior to 1989.

Is it "Born on the Bayou"?

If so, CCR.

Yep.

Funny, though. It doesn't sound the same way I remember it (Found it on iTunes).

Sure it wasn't "Cajun Hell" by Exodus?

Down in the bayou where the alligators roam
Live some people, you leave them alone
Getting lost may be your last mistake
Unfriendly strangers, unkindly they take
Living off the fat of the land
They hold their justice in the palm of their hand
Lay down your gun and surrender quiet
Or there's gonna be a Cajun riot

Danger in the swamp, that waits for you
There's nothing left that you can do
Better watch your back, for the vicious attack
'Cause they'll be looking for you
Playing with your life, for your life is too short
Pain is too good for you
Your last breath, is all you have left
Take it before you're doomed
Cajun hell
Before you're doomed

Raising hell, and they're ready for fighting
Huntin' gators and drinking white lightning
Brewin' moonshine at a still in the swamp
Playing Creole from dusk until dawn
Protect their own is the law of the land
Mess with their law it will get out of hand
Keep it in mind if you're ever down there
It might be fatal, you better beware

Maybe it's this one:

Just for the record
Lets get the story straight
Me and Uncle Tom were fishing
It was getting pretty late
Out on a cypress limb
Above the wishin' well
where they say it got no bottom
Say it take you down to hell
Over in the bushes
And off to the right
Come two men talkin
In the pale moon light
Sheriff John Brady and Deputy Hedge
Haulin' two limp bodies
Down to the water's edge

I know a secret down at
Uncle Tom's Cabin, oh yeah
I know a secret that
I just can't tell

They didn't see me and Tom
In the trees
Neither one believing
What the other could see
Tossed in the bodies
let 'em sink on down
To the bottom of the well
Where they'd never be found

CHORUS
I know a secret down at Uncle Tom's Cabin
I know a secret that I just can't tell
I know a secret down at Uncle Tom's Cabin
Know who put the bodies in the wishing well

Soon as they were gone
Me and Tom got down
Pray' real hard
That we wouldn't make a sound
Runing throught he woods
Back to Uncle Tom's shack
Where the full moon shines
Through the roof tile cracks

Oh my God, Tom, who are we gonna tell
The sheriff he belongs in a prison cell
Keep your mouth shut
That's what we're gonna do
Unless you wanna wind up
In the wishin' well too

CHORUS

Oh yeah, ha ch ch ch cha
