Long mission pilots are given amphetamines, who prescribes them and how does this fit with drug laws? Is it "illegal?"

Prescribed and monitored by the flight surgeon.

What do you mean "non medical" ?

Sounds medical to me.

Of course it's legal.

Think of it as preventative medicine.  Falling asleep at the wheel of a jet can lead to a whole host of medical complications.

If he's talking about "go pills," the flight docs control all of that, and they have guidelines for prescribing them.

Amphetamines are also sometimes used in civilian medicine, just not very often.

Keeping you awake to fly an airplane is not a medical use or else it would be OK to prescribe amphetamines for anyone to do anything if they needed to do it for more than eight hours.

The 3rd autoinjector (CANA) in the antidote kit is diazepam (Valium), used as an anti-convulsant after nerve agent exposure. The first two are atropine and 2-PAM-Cl.
