I attended, but got out with the state exit exam.  Adios Mofo.  Now I have mulitple degrees including a dahturate but the most important one to me is 98.6.  Without it you ain't sh*t.

One of my friends dropped out of high school, obtained his GED, scored a 34 on the ACT, and was in college two years before I was.

I, on the other hand, graduated from both high school and college.

You would have learned that in high school.

Back in 2000-2001 while I was at HQMC in Arlington, VA,  I had a Marine who had gotten kicked out of high school.  He was one of the few kids who actually enlisted without a HS degree.  He had gotten his GED during his first tour in Okinawa, and he was taking night classes at the local community college.  He was taking calculus and physics and I'd help him with his homework.  I got to know him pretty well; we'd work out together at lunch and then I'd help him with his homework before we left for the day.

He was a great kid; smart, good Marine, mature, and down to earth.  I talked him into applying for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP).  He got accepted, graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (I was an undergrad Mech E), flew C130s in the Marine Corps, and now he's an author.

I tested for my GED while I was up there.

Went into the military At 19.

Entered college at 30.
Graduated University with top honors at 35. I gave the commencement speech.

Not sure if this is what you're talking about but several of my wifes siblings were homeschooled. At 16 they would start taking classes at a community college. Those classes counted as HS credits and also toward their degree. They had bachelors at 20 but never attended a HS.

@LittlePony Can you translate this into Standard American English?

As far as I can tell, you beat up some kid because he wouldn't adorn you with feathers and lace unless his friends were there to help.

I had a great childhood (once I got Big Sis sorted out, anyway) and I hit a kid with a chair because he wouldn't stop walking up behind me and hitting on the back of the head.  I'm a lot older than you, though, and things were different then, so nothing much happened to me.

A couple months later, he was the first boy to ever kiss me.  Apparently, he knew he wanted to do something with me, but wasn't sure exactly what, and getting hit in the head clarified his thinking.  I wouldn't be surprised if the same psychodynamic pertained in your experience.

I went straight to university after HS.

But 2 of my siblings dropped out of HS.

Both later earned degrees; one BA and one associates degree in electrical engineering.

It's not an uncommon route.  Challenging though.
