16" vs 20"...I will tell you this. I took my AR10T with the 16" barrel. Used a Harris Bipod 6" one and the Super Sniper Scope by Tasco. I went to PASA PArk in IL and shot out to 1200yds. I think that is the longest. It might be 1600yds. Anyway 308 Match Molly Coated ammo 168gr Black hills. I was on the paper and once dialed in. My shots were the size of Quarters. At 200-400-600 yds I want to say 3 shots in each other. 800 and 1200yds Like I said Quarters and some smaller. I put almost 900 rounds through it that day. Now that was with a 16" and brake. I put in a Rock River National Match Trigger. I am sure 16" or 20" you will be very happy with the rifle. THIS IS A GREAT DEAL SR. has put together. Wish you had a 24" in the mix, but I am going to try for the 20". Just real bad time this and next month. Also my Bushmaster Varminter out to 800yds was like a tack driver. 24" flutted barrel, Bipod, Springfield Armory Tactical Scope with 223 comp in it.I didn't do to good past 800 yds at all.

I shoot a lot, but still have not found a rifle that can do this. wow1200 yard shots all inside a quarter.

And not only that this guys that was there and saw him do it turned out to be the coach of the US Palma Team and offered him the job of Team Captain. Of course his other responsiblites would keep him from actually attending but the gesture was nice. [bs]

I once had a thread called "Truth in Accuracy" where we discussed people lying about rifle accuracy. No rifle can shoot that good. Period.
Link Posted: 7/2/2003 1:17:07 PM EDT
BS! On the scale of Gore inventing the internet. Isn't the world record something like a 4 inch group at 1000 yards. An alternate method of determining that this is BS, is the fact that he shot 900 rounds of Match grade ammo. AS IF!

Quarter-sized groups? That's 1 MOA, isn't it? At 1200 yards? [bs2]
Link Posted: 7/2/2003 1:18:55 PM EDT
By my rough calculations, that's about .07 MOA at 1200 yards. At 1600 yards, it's .058 MOA. Dat's some good shootin!
Link Posted: 7/2/2003 1:19:57 PM EDT
No rifle in the world can do that, whether the shooter could or not is irrelevant. Especially a 16" AR10. Major Horse Shit!

Paso Park is a really nice place, but I did not see a range that one could shoot that far. I have seen a revolver shooter shoot 2 shots so fast that I would have lost money betting that he just shot once.

Let's keep the comments here, instead of in that thread, so as not to completely hijack it. Suffice to say the goofy comments have nothing to do with the subject of the original thread. And they certainly merit a thread of their own for discussion purposes.

PASA Park has a web site. As far as I can tell, their longest range in 600 yards. At least that's what they shoot "Long Range" Any Rifle, Any Sight matches on. Hell even Range 4 at Quantico only goes out to 1000 yards. I got 10 bucks says this guy has never seen a range longer than 600 yards, and prone unsupported he couldn't hold 20 rounds in the black on a NM taget with the rifle described. I think what he's trying to communicate is that he threw 900 rounds down range and 3 of them were close together.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can keyhole at 1600 meters while blindfolded, offhand, 240 mph cross wind, and drunk with my Mannlicher-Carcano. Hell, could probably do better with an MP-5 if I put my mind to it. This guy is obviously an amatuer when it comes to skilled marksmanship.

No Bull Shit, There I was, knee deep in hand grenade pins, we'd worn our bayonets down to little nubs, the rifleing in our A2's was gone, and all I had left was my SIG 226 and 4 rounds....I did the only thing a man could do....I charged!!!! Then I got killed, damn!

Well a nice 26" bolt rifle zeroed @ 600 yards shooting 168gr .308 will have a bullet drop somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 ft at 1000 yards and wind drift would be in the range of a ft or so for every mph of breeze. At 1200yds you do the math, she'll be falling like a MOAB. [:)] I'd have just about as much chance shooting a group the size of a pie plate with my 700vs at 1200yds as I would throwing a rock at a 747 flying overhead and hitting it. So I guess the answer to the original question would be "Not I".[lol]

(1) If you are precision shooting and you're not sure of your range you're lying about accuracy. (2) Moly-coated .308 ammo as-of-late has proven to not be as accurate as once professed. (3) "shots the size of quarters" ... is the exact length a perfectly key-holed 168 grain boat-tail prints on paper.

Once my brother-in-law took me to the Burro Canyon (or Creek?) range up near LA. On the rifle range, there was this guy with AKs and such. He thought we were shooting at 500 yards. I estimated 300. My laser rangefinder measured it at 250.

How big a quarter are we talking about here? Yap Island quarters, perhaps? Yeah, I can keep all my shots in a quarter sized group if I'm using an AK at 1600 yards, if I get to use THIS quarter! From an offhand position, too!

Never sat down to figure it out. Anybody wanna hazard a swag at what the MOA would be when a 16" naval gun hits a 20' target at 26,000 (yep thousand)yards?

Damned if that wasn't a scary place. As a teenager I loved going up there to shoot. Then it started to dawn on me what kind of idiots were there, especially on the weekends. On a side note, the road leading to the shooting area is where I learned that Corvettes were not made to fly.
