You would be fine with getting rid of everything else.

I don't have a problem with the programs in and of themselves...

My issue is that they are carefully engineered by democrats to ensure that the recipients become trapped in a cycle of dependency on said programs and thus become a permanent voter base / entitlement class.

What you do is this…

1) Eliminate corporate taxes and streamline regulations. This will cause an economic boom.

2) Stop the flow of third world labor into our country. Supply and demand will then force the wages for low skilled workers to skyrocket.

3) Now that virtually everyone can find a job that pays a living wage we can phase out all of the social programs except for Social Security. And Social Security should be converted into a private retirement system with individual accounts.

4) There will still be plenty of need for social services. Government should give tax incentives to donate to charities that help the poor and needy.

5) At this point we as a people need to look at what needs social needs aren’t being met and find a way to fill them. This might involve some limited government programs but that should always be a last resort.

Absolutely.  If you can't make it in the world, then you better have friends, family, church, or local charities to rely on.  It's not the federal government's job to buy you cheese, milk, and formula for your progeny.  It's not their job to provide you with shelter, food, or medical care.

If you move them all into the domain of private charities - eliminate all governmental involvement in them - then I got no problem with ANY of 'em.

None of them are rationally defensible from an ethical pov.

Unless your ethics are governed by Karl Marx, that is.  In which case you've moved beyond reason into straight up koo koo land.

All of them are fine......

If you pass a pee test, are are free from all illicit drugs, alcohol, AND NICOTINE.

After everything I've seen in my ER, dealing with people on medicaid day in and day out, I've decided that welfare is nothing but indirect government subsidization of the tobacco industry.

The only thing welfare is doing, is allowing them to spend money on things we consider luxuries. God forbid they go without TV, cigarettes, booze, and casino night.
