I will be ordering a ruger pistol this week and need to decide between the p97 or the p95. I like 'em both, but was wondering if any one who owns one could share their experience. Please, none of that "get yerself a real gun" crap.

Thanks
ARben

P95 in blue with the manual safety, it's new.
Blue probably costs less and looks less garish.
The P95 will share higher capacity magazines, I think, with the P89 series.  Check on that.
Buy a holster or two and a case of hot loaded 9mm ammo.  Practice hitting the target rather than "spray" with a lot of 9mm.
Rugers are tough.

If I had a Ruger, it would be the P90 with a Hogue grip and the later 8-rd. and 10-rd. mags.

I prefer the Beretta 96 in .40 and practice with those.

Good shooting with your new Ruger.

I have a P95DC.  The second most reliable weapon I own.  The first is a GP-100.  It will eat any ammo, and yes, it will accept the P-85/P-89 hi caps mags which are still relatively inexpensive.  I've heard both are nice.  Just depends on which caliber you want.

Thanks for the tip. I am planning on getting one of stainless models. I already have a 9mm (beretta 92) and a .45 (s&W 4506), so the Ruger is going to be for compact carry. I am very proficiant with pistols and want the most in the accuracy department. Reviews have shown the p97 to put out sub 2 inch groups, but I haven't seen a recent review of the p95. Both guns are durable and reliable, I'm just curious which one is a better shooter. My dad is a ffl, so I will be paying only $250 for the kp95 and $270 for the kp97.

Thanks again,
ARben

I keep hearing the ruger is made loose and reliable like the AK.  Good luck

Isn't the 97 a .45?

Damn, just when I was about to launch into the "get yourself a real gun" speach.

i bought a used p89dc a couple months ago and i like it a lot.  they only problem i've ever had was today the slide did not stay back after the last shot (only happened once).  i've fired approx 300 rds thru it w/out a problem.  my vote is for ruger.  my next is either a beretta or kimber pro carry.

Thanks for the replies!
I think I'll be getting a kp95, unless I decide on whim to get the .45 p97. It just pisses me off to buy a gun and have it come with 10 round mags when it is supposed to hold 15.
