Every "assault weapon" that I handled prior to 2000 and didn't buy.

It's a long list.

They're all banned here now.

I was old enough to buy machineguns long before the 86 ban. I just kept putting it off. I kick myself every now and then when I think about it.

Back in 1989 my local dealer was trying to unload HK SP-89s for $400 each. He had 24 of them and was trying desperately to get rid of them.

Those little rigs today can bring over $3k each NIB. They are a perfect base for an MP5K conversion.

Late 80's:

H&K 91 for $600
Colt AR-15A2 H-Bar for less than that

Mid 90s:
H&K SP-89 for $1200 @ Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly

I think those are the biggies.

But I kinda wish I had bought a Galil, too. Oh, and a FN FNC. It was the rifle Pachino use in "Heat" you know...

a SA M1 Garand - late 40's production (memory is fuzzy here but not a later production run), and the sucker had no handling marks, no wear and i swear it still had a perfect, like new barrel.

off the gunshow table - $400.

A friend of mine got a Class III M16 stripped lower for about 3k a few years ago and made out like a bandit in hindsight......... Wish I wasnt active duty military - too much hassle with Title II weapons :(

Slick black Belgium FN FAL. The real deal-mags-funky bayo-all the accessories-slick weapon-it molded to me when I sighted it in. I could feel the attraction, it wasn't a cold mixture of metal and plastic, it was warm and alive! I almost could not put her down. I heard a forlorn sigh when I left. That rifle haunts me to this day. I have damned myself by leaving her there. I have gone out many times, searching for her, my soul tormented by what might have been. To this day I still look, hoping to find her, feel her slick flank against my cheek, becoming one.
My time is running short now, body is giving up, but maybe the next shop...

1. Any FA pre-86. I wouldn't be figuring out how to pay for my kids' college now, had I taken the plunge then.

2. Mod. '97 Trench Guns for $175 - $250 each ca. 1980.

The question is, "What are we missing right now?"

Summer of 94'--right before the ban, I was an armorer for a dept., went to a LE supply store to pick some things up, and hanging on the wall were brand new Colt CAR's for $599---9mm and 5.56, no letterhead--over the counter to LE--only if I would have had a crystal ball.

ETA: 2-3 months later the price was double

G-43 $350 15 years ago before WWII re-enacting caught on.

Colt Delta H-Bar AR-15

Beretta AR-70 used for $600

Sometimes think I should have tried  to track down some of the AKs that were brought back into the country after the first Gulf War.....IIRC, they were going for $500-$600.

I wish I bought one while they were still available in California and I had a chance to get some full capacity magazines.

I bought an HK USP instead because I bought into the hype, spent 2 years trying to shoot that gun well and wound up ditching it in frustration.

Also wish I bought an HK MK23 while it was available as an occasional range toy and collector's piece, can't get it in Ca. cause it's a freaking "assault weapon" with the threaded barrel.

I regret not buying an HK91 when they were $450.00 second hand.

Winchester Model 21 double barrel shotgun.  Back in 72 I had a chance to to buy a LNIB 12 ga.  for $550 from a guy who was selling off his grandfather's estate.  I couldn't make up my mind and told him I had to think about it overnight.  I came back the next day with cash in hand and it had already been sold to a guy for $575.

I'm too young to remember any of the really good stuff ( I was 3 at the time of the '86 MG ban and 6 at the time of the Bush ban )

I do remember the $2995 NIB Vector Uzis though.

I regret not buying a transferable MG when I got back from Afghanistan last year and I lived in NC where I could do it.

Steyr USR for $500 at a gun show, in Southern California no less, during the short period you could buy them.

Sadly, I could not convince my father to buy it for me.  I got a shitty chinaman made paintball gun.    I would have been old enough to have it transfered by the time our ban rolled around so it would have been worthwhile.  Oh well, no crystal balls.
