I look at ARFCOM the same way I do my high school. Not necessarily the people or the experiences (although that might be a good fit, too), but the actual building. It's a long building, with rooms on either side of the main hallway that runs the whole length. Each room represents a forum, and some rooms are bigger than others. For instance, the auditorium is General Discussion. Not that you couldn't tell, however, because the closer you get to the auditorium, the louder the noise is. Adding to the din would be the occasional teacher (moderator) yelling at someone to sit down and shut up. For the industrial-size screw-ups, the intercom comes to life as word gets passed to the office for staff to show up and crack some heads.
Anyone can go to the auditorium (GD), and it shows. Whereas other classrooms (forums) are smaller and more tidy, the auditorium has its own unique sights and smells. Despite the best efforts of the teachers (moderators) to keep the auditorium clean, there are numerous stains on the walls. Frequently, the stench of a backed-up toilet filters through portions of the auditorium. Not surprisingly, the aroma of cheap cigarettes, marijuana, and even fine cigars is most noticeable at this time. It's as if the perpetrators actually enjoy the smell of rotting, burning plant matter being mixed with urine and shit.
Or, perhaps, it's an attempt by others to cover up the clogged toilet smell? A question for the ages, perhaps.
It's always interesting when fights break out or people get kicked out of the auditiorium. The more observant among us notice that it never happens the same way twice. Oh, sure, the fights are of cookie-cutter variety, but it's the aftermath that always seems to play out differently. One day you might see someone over in the corner facing the wall and no-one is bothering with him. Most of the time, this means he's fulfilling some mild punishment administered by a teacher, but every now and then you can't be sure, given the wide range of people who frequent the auditorium. Sometimes the offense is a little more serious and one of the hardy teachers decides it's best to escort the offender to the door. It gets really interesting when the offender puts up a fight and his buddies decide their secret honor code necessitates them coming to the defense of their comrade. Then, bedlam ensues and that's when out of nowhere, people from the administration, people who you haven't seen for ages, show up with their sleeves rollled up and the looks of determination in their eyes.
Most times following such occasions, the auditorium has a number of new empty seats. And like I mentioned earlier, stains on the wall. And floor.
Yes, the auditorium is like a human zoo. As I mentioned earlier, it is unlike other classrooms (forums). Take the Survival Room, for instance. You could walk past that room and hardly hear a pin drop. That is, if you discount the jungle sounds emanating from someone's CD player inside the room. Every now and then they fire up a generator, too.
Then, there's the Police room. No, they don't check for badges at the door, but you better have one anyway. Pretty quiet in there, too.
Down at the end of the hallway used to be the Gym (Pit). All the lights are turned off and there's police tape strewn across the doorway. Legend has it you can sneak in there, but if ghosts hear you talking, you never come back out.
