Not 'school style', but the huge grey metal ones like you had in basic training....

Can't find them on Govt Liquidation...

Is this something I have to actually go to DRMO for, or is there some other source for these things used/surplus?

DRMO would be best, if you can do it.

I remember a lot of them were made by Prison Industries, but I haven't found a good match yet.

I'd love to get a Navy "coffin rack" for a camper.

Only thing I can think of is a base closure..

Honestly, wall lockers or other stuff like that doesnt seem to get surplused.. It gets used until it falls apart..
Everyone can always use "one more"....

A buddy of mine's family had the contract to build these for the Navy, send me a pic of what you are looking for and I will see if they have anything like it and what they'd charge.

$159 for this one.

Nope, those are 'school style'...

I'm thinking the huge ones that you could fit 2 fully-packed duffle bags, long-ways, in the bottom (or about 4-5 people standing up)...

Don't have photos, but they're huge and very non-economical-to-ship....

I'm gonna check DRMO later this week (I live 30min from Ft lewis)....

Try searching the net for Wardrobe or Armoires

You might need to clarify when and where someone went to basic. In 1993 in Ft Benning our wall lockers were wood.

I've only used old tan(iirc) rusty ones. IIRC, you couldn't store duffel bags in them lengthwise. I'm not sure what gray barracks lockers you're referring to.

What do you plan on doing with them?

Organizing my storage/supply room at my house (Single guy, 3BR house -> gun room, bedroom, supply room)... I'd like to put a few along the walls, and put the stuff that is currently just stacked in cardboard boxes sitting on the floor, in said lockers...

Pretty much the same thing the supply folks use them for on base (they're also used as wardrobes/closets in barracks rooms, etc)....

The ones my buddie's family builds are steel with steel mesh door. Rack for 2 rifle. Hooks for duffel and other bags. Shelves for personal items sidearms and other loose gear. Drain Holes in bottom and 3 latches for locks.

ETA–– These are built for SWC use on ships and bases. Huge heavy bastards.

Nope...

Similar, but grey and no wire-mesh....

Solid sheet metal.

The last one in the above pics is as close as this thread gets...

The type I'm thinking of (We had them at Jackson, OCS/ABN had them at Benning, Ft Eustis (where I went for AIT) had them too...) is kind of like that, but wider, grey & has two drawers in the bottom...

You put your socks in one, underwear in the other, there was a shelf on the top for boots... And you could fit every issued piece of clothing in there, plus a 3-drawer chest with room to spare...

This is as close as I can find to the ones I've used over the years:

Furniture typically doesn't go to DRMO, it goes to FMO.

That's pretty much it...

FMO???

Facilities Management?

I prefer to buy used/surplus, for obvious cost reasons....

Furniture Management Office. Most of it is reused by other .mil or .gov agencies, but some eventually does go to DRMO as excess. I've never seen wall lockers at DRMO but that doesn't mean they don't occasionally surplus them. I'd actually snoop around base and find out what barracks are being condemned, ask the facility manager if they have any old/damaged/unwanted ones laying around. Hell I had two partially functional ones in my tent in Iraq, God knows where they came from.

ETA: I think most of them end up like this:

Yep...

That's it...

There are a few different varieties, but that's exactly what I'm talking about....

I really need to start hitting DRMO.

I know how to get DRMO items for my unit, but not sure how to get stuff as a private citizen.
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 2:04:32 PM EST
I know there is an abandoned barracks full of them down in Ft Ord, CA. I paid a visit to my old unit area and barracks at the now closed down Ft Ord. My barracks was still there with all the wall lockers in the rooms. Our names were still on them after 15 years.
