Man, we need a computer geek forum here. Perhaps "Geeks with Guns".

I need some RDRAM PC800 ECC and some SDRAM/66 (for an older system). Where is a good web site to buy this stuff?

I looked at [url]www.memorysuppliers.com[/url] and they look okay. Are they an above-board outfit? Are there any other I should look at?

They want $99 for two 128 mb PC800 ECC RDRAM modules and the SDRAM/66 is $20/128 mb.

Is that in the ballpark?

Should I bother with ECC SDRAM? It's kinda hard to find.

Thanks. They look pretty cool but they don't carry RDRAM and they want $27 for the SDRAM/66. The other place wanted $20.

Go to bestbuy.com (or to the store). They have Crucial memory on a BIG sale this week. $10 instant rebate, $15 mail in rebate! I got 2 256mb PC2100 DDR RAM sticks at $20 each!

Beat that.

Crucial is good because it is the web store for Micron, so you know you're getting high quality stuff straight from the manufacturer, and they have very good prices and free shipping so that their price usually ends up being only a couple bucks more than the crappier RAM you can get elsewhere.

Of course, Micron doesn't manufacture Rambus memory, so you can't get that through Crucial.

I've never had a system that required error correction (ECC) on the RAM, so I don't think there is any need for it on the SDRAM.

If you want to check out an online vendor to see if they are reputable, look at their rating on [url]http://www.resellerratings.com[/url].

My board (Abit KG7-Raid) needed ECC RAM in order to use all 4 of the DIMM slots. If you only need 2 slots, you can use standard RAM though.

Thanks a lot for the tips everyone. I went with Crucial.com for the PC66 SDRAM. It would have been a lot cheaper to go with oempcworld.com, but I didn't see the link in time. Oh well!

Next problem! Damn!

Man, the stinkin' Intel OR840 manual says to use 168-pin RIMMs, but AFAICT, all RIMMs are 184-pin. What's the deal? Is the manual wrong?

Check Viking [url]http://www.vikingcomponents.com/[/url]. They are usually OEM suppliers and their memory modules carry a lifetime warranty. I have never had a problem with them and their customer service was great.
