Where is a good place to order A full size  Springfield armory 1911 or a Kimber Custom II? I really want a 1911, but I want to run it in pistol matches. Thanks again.

I'd imagine an antique shop could get you one.

Start calling your local dealers and get prices on the model you really want.  I'd start out with one of their Loaded models.  Those will probably run you in the $600-$700ish price range.  If you want target models, then expect to pay some big money.

I know nothing about 1911's, but AIM surplus has a few Kimber's for 600 up.

On a Kimber, can you get an aftermarket Ambi safety, becaause I am left handed.

A lot of Kimbers come with Ambi safetys.  My Eclipse did.

The best place to buy guns in on the EE.  If you have the time to wait for a good deal to pop up.

ice cream trucks or out of the trunks of people in school parking lots

or: open your yellow pages to GUN. Start calling.

I imagine in Montana there are several gun shops...

back in the 30's when these were still considered state of the art and effective, you could get them at your local hardware store.

I bought mine at a store that sold guns. They had various guns on the walls, and even had some in display cases. I found one that just so happened to be a 1911 in this very store. I gave the man some money, and he handed me the pistol. If I recall correctly, they even sold ammunition. It was the damndest thing you ever saw.
