I saw cows in China. I also saw a TON of pigs.
BTW, China exports over $20 BILLION in leather goods each year. |

I know that some leather is actually grown, cut and tanned here in the US and THEN shipped overseas to be made into articles of clothing or products and then shipped BACK and it is still cheaper then paying the fucking unionized Garment Workers to make the stuff here.
On another note, some of it is goat hide and horse. I am sure they also get leather from South America. On another another note, I went to a motorcycle goods shop and they had a nice THICK skinned leather jacket with foam body armor for $209. Went into Wilson's Chinese Leather Goods Emporium and they had a motorcylce "look" jacket, made of paper thin leather and it was 60-70% off and was $119. HMMMMMMMM....NO!!!! |

According to THIS report, China produces it's own low quality hides, and imports the high quality stuff. They buy a lot of hides from the US.

Many of the 'designer' purses are made in China.
My GF doesn't understand why I won't buy her a $200 Coach bag... made in China. Don't get me wrong, I'll buy cheap chinese crap, but I know what it's worth. Next to nothing. |
