Does anybody know where I can pick up a M14 for relatively cheap, I don't want to dish out $1500 from Springfield, is there any way to get surplus M14's from the govt?

Only if you are a government agency.

I don't think that's going to happen any time soon. Maybe years from now, but definitely not now.

Get yourself a used Springfield M1A.

That's about as close to an M14 as you're 'gonna get without bu-ku bux and a stamp.

Learn to shoot accurately.

I've heard good things about the Polytechs. They run cheaper than the Springfields.

For $1800 you can get one from Fulton Armory. I would go that way instead of Springfield.

Look for an older, mostly all USGI parts safe Queen Springfield Armory. $1200-$1250 for a nice lightly used one is about right.

For a M14 $1500 I would spend.

I bought a Polytech M14 at the gunshow for $820 out the door, thought it was a good deal.

Saw another Polytech Sunday for $750. They are out there, just look.

No, I won't sell you mine.

You can get an M1A conversion for that, but a true M14 will be in the $20K range.

Oh, how I wish.

BATFE says M14s are NFA since all you need is an auto sear to convert them.
I had a full auto one that I sold about 15 years ago.

Buy an M1A and be happy.

Those that Clinton didn't destroy were sent to the Baltics. I can see a really good 2008 campaign TV commercial where an Iraq or Afgan War vet talks about how much they needed those M-14s that Clinton destroyed.

Many did, not all of them.

I went to a CMP type class in MI that had loaner National Match M14s, which is where my love affair with M14/M1As began.

I think I saw an M-14 for sale in the recent SAR.

Price was $12,000 IIRC.

The Gov't has not released the M1a or M14 to the civilian market like they have the Garands. A true military M1a/M14 just is NOT available.

Those that are on the market have commercially produced receivers, and possibly military parts.

The Chinese actions are said to be good, but their bolts are crap (the locking lug geometry isn't right). This means that within several hundred rounds the headspace has grown to the point of danger. You can buy a Chinese version and have it worked on, to include having the bolt replaced with a US military bolt.

There are web sites out there with this information - you just have to look for it.

It's a pity we can't get lots of cheap parts sets from the M14's overseas, minus the NFA .mil receivers. Toss on a new Armscorp/Polytech/Enterprise receiver and you might be able to save vs the price of a new Springfield.

Having owned both, +1.

Mikhail_86: So what is your budget for a M14-type rifle? Anyway you cut it if you're going for a NIB one, it going to cost you at $1,000+, after taxes and whatever transfer fees.
