sorry, but it is supply/demand and government taxes/fees. That is really all there is to it. Its not Bush, its not Cheney, its the world.
ETA:  That is a chart of gas company profits, to government taxes from 1977-2004 courtesy of this article. If our government took away all the taxes and fees gas would be around 1.40 right now. Adjusting 1.40 for inflation makes gas almost the same price as it was in 1969. |

It is pure supply and demand. When demand chases limited supplies, the price is bid up. Just because you don't like the price doesn't mean supply/demand is wrong.
Additionally, the demand for gasoline and other oil derivaties is inelastic. Regardless of the price, there will always be at least the same demand for the product. And in our booming world economy, more people want oil faster than the supply chain is capable of adjusting to. We are also paying for putting up with all the kooks who didn't want offshore drilling because it looked ugly from the beach. I think that the GOP ought to push for drilling in ANWAR again. I want to see the Dems say that all that oil us off limits because they don't want to upset the lichens. |
